PHEV Performance

Engine, Battery + Motors

The engine in the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is an upgraded version of the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that is in the non-hybrid Pacifica. But since the Pacifica Hybrid is a PHEV, the engine is accompanied by a 16-kWh lithium-ion battery and dual electric motors. The Pacifica Hybrid can use only the engine, only the battery, or a combination of both. When traveling on only electricity, the Pacifica Hybrid releases zero tailpipe emissions.

Fuel Economy

The Pacifica Hybrid sets a new precedent in the minivan segment. The Pacifica Hybrid is actually more fuel efficient than Chrysler originally estimated. The Pacifica Hybrid can travel 33 miles on pure electricity, during which it doesn’t emit a single tailpipe emission. When the engine and battery work together, the Pacifica Hybrid has a fuel economy of 84 MPGe. With a fully charged battery and a full tank of gas, the Pacifica Hybrid has total driving range of 566 miles.

The battery can be recharged with a 120-volt charging port or a 240-volt Level II charger. The 240-volt Level II charger has the ability to completely charge the battery in two hours and it takes just a little longer with a 120-volt charger. Additionally, the Pacifica Hybrid has regenerative braking, which recycles vehicle’s kinetic energy that is used when braking into electric energy that is transferred to the battery.

Sleek Design

Aside from some hybrid badging, inside and out, the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid looks identical to the gas powered version of the Pacifica. Inspired by the grille on the Chrysler 200, the Pacifica’s front grille is sleek, modern and gives the Pacifica a sophisticated feel. To help the Pacifica and the Pacifica Hybrid achieve its excellent fuel efficiency, the minivan was designed with aerodynamics in mind and it is built with one of the lightest, yet stiffest, structures on the market.

Exterior Equipment

The Pacifica Hybrid is available in 11 exterior colors and it comes standard with convenient power sliding doors, aluminum wheels, halogen headlights and heated exterior mirrors. Buyers that want to customize the exterior of the Pacifica can do so by upgrading with the available award-winning available tri-pane sunroof, chrome accents, halogen quad headlights and LED tail lights.

The same refined look of the Pacifica’s exterior is continued on the inside. Chrysler styled the Pacifica Hybrid’s exterior to have an eco chic design while being spacious and technologically savvy. Like the gas-powered Pacifica, cloth seating for seven, a touchscreen and sunscreen control glass are standard features on the Pacifica Hybrid.

The Pacifica Hybrid comes standard with a variety of auxiliary ports and charging outlets, an 8.4-inch touch screen and Uconnect 8.4, which is FCA’s built-in infotainment system. Uconnect 8.4 includes integrated voice command with Bluetooth, an advanced radio and it is available with navigation and SiriusXM.

Pacifica Hybrid Tech

Hybrid Electric Pages

Since there are more features and diagnostics associated with a hybrid vehicle, the Pacifica Hybrid has some unique tech systems.  In addition to the 8.4-inch touch screen and Uconnect 8.4, the Pacifica Hybrid is also equipped with a hybrid coaching tool, an available app and Hybrid Electric Pages, which notify the driver of power flow, driving history and to schedule charging times.

Hybrid Coaching

The hybrid coaching tool is built into the vehicle's instrument cluster and it helps drivers maximize battery time. When the vehicle is operating at peak efficiency, a green light turns on and a white light turns on when the car is operating out of an eco-friendly range. After drivers get used to the driving system, they develop a feel for what driving conditions maximize efficiency.

Uconnect Access

Due to the size and placement of the minivan’s battery, the Pacifica Hybrid only has third-row Stow ‘n Go seating, whereas the gas-only powered Pacifica has Stow ‘n Go seating in the second and third rows.  Don’t worry though, hybrid Pacifica still offers a lot of cargo room and there is enough space behind the van’s front seats to transport 64 4’x8’ quarter-inch sheets of plywood.
