2017 Dodge Charger
The Dodge Charger has been an iconic muscle car known for performance and good looks since the ‘60s. For the 2017 model year, the Dodge Charger is as fierce as ever and pieces of the Charger’s heritage have come back to the lineup. .
In addition to style and performance, with 5-star overall crash rating from the NHTSA and the 2017 Residual Value Award in the full-size category from ALG under its belt, the 2017 Dodge Charger is definitely a sedan to consider.
For 2017, the Dodge Charger lineup consists of eight trims and two of them are the special-edition Charger Daytona trims, the Daytona R/T and Daytona 392. Additionally, Dodge removed the Charger R/T Road/Track trim from the lineup, but two other R/T trims (R/T Scat Pack and R/T) are still available.
The TorqueFlite 8-speed automatic transmission is standard on all Charger models and the Charger lineup includes four engines: 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine (Charger SE and SXT trims); 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine (Charger R/T and Daytona trims); a 6.2-liter V8 SRT Hellcat engine (Charger SRT Hellcat); and a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine (Charger SRT 392, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392 trims).
The base 3.6L Pentastar engine produces up to 292 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque; the 5.7-liter engine produces 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque; the 6.4-liter HEMI engine produces an impressive 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque; and finally, the SRT Hellcat engine produces 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.
The Charger is a spacious four-door, five-passenger sedan. A 2.75-inch active controlled dual rear exhaust is standard on all HEMI Charger trims, as well as bi-function halogen projector headlamps and LED daytime running headlights. 17-inch wheels are standard on the Charger SE (base trim) but there are more than 10 factory wheel options. Buyers can choose from a variety of colors including the new High-Impact Paint colors, which are a select group of vibrant colors that are a part of the Mopar legacy.
Like usual, the interior of the Charger is stealth and sleek. Buyers have the option of a few different interior color schemes, including an all black, black and red, and a warm tan. All Charger trims are equipped with an in-dash touch screen display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a rear 60/40 split bench seat. The Charger SE (base trim) comes standard with cloth seating, but there are a variety of seat materials that are standard or available upgrades on other Charger trims. Other upgrades include heated and ventilated seats, premium sound systems and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
Once a race legend in the ‘60s and ‘s70, the Dodge Charger Daytona is making a comeback as two trims (Daytona R/T and Daytona 392) for the 2017 model year. The Charger Daytona R/T is equipped with the 5.7L HEMI engine and the Daytona 392 has the 6.4L HEMI engine. Both Daytona models have exclusive exterior and interior styling including a black hood and signature “Daytona” badging. However, since the Daytona was once originally a race car, the trims have special performance parts including 20-inch performance tires, a performance intake system, high-performance Brembo brakes and a performance steering wheel.
The 2017 Dodge Charger got a five-star rating from the NHTSA likely because of all the standard and optional safety technology. Safety features like a solid steel frame, side guard door beams, advanced multi-stage airbags, active front head restraints, traction and electronic stability control are just a few of the many standard safety features. Features such as blind spot and cross path detection, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, and a ParkView backup camera are options for some of the upper level trims.
When it comes to entertainment, you will never be bored in a Dodge Charger. Standard entertainment features in the 2017 Dodge Charger include, but are not limited to UConnect 5.0 or 8.4, a media hub with SD, USB, and AUX capabilities and plenty of ports for charging mobile devices. Sirius XM radio and built-in navigation are also available tech features as well.
There are several special edition packages to introduce for the 2017 Charger models. The four packages available include a “Blacktop” package, a “Rallye Group” package, a “Charger Plus Group” package and a “Premium Group” package.
