Trims

There are a total of nine Jeep Cherokee trims on the 2017 lineup and three engine options. The base trim is the Cherokee Sport and the trim with all of the bells and whistles is the Jeep Cherokee Overland. All but the 4x4 Cherokee Trailhawk and Trailhawk L trims are available in front-wheel or four-wheel drive.

Standard Engines

The base engine is a 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine that is paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. A second engine option is the 2.4-liter I4 PZEV M-Air engine, which is also paired to a nine-speed automatic transmission. These engines produce 184 horsepower horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque, but the M-Air version comes with a 600-AMP maintenance free battery and an engine oil cooler feature. This engine has an average fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.

Upgraded Engine

The third engine option is available on almost all Cherokee trims, and it is standard on the Cherokee Overland. The engine is a 3.2-liter V6 24-Valve VVT Engine w / Elect Stop Start technology. This engine produces up to 271 horsepower, 239 lb-ft of torque, and has an average fuel economy of 21 city and 29 highway mpg.

The 2017 Jeep Cherokee has a very comfortable interior as it has soft surfaces and plenty of space. The Cherokee is a five-passenger SUV with two rows of seating and offers passengers 104.3 cubic feet of interior volume. The second row’s 40/60 split-folding recline seats make it easier to carry cargo when needed and there is 54.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity behind the front row seating.

Active Drive I

All Jeep Cherokee 4x4 trims (except for the two Cherokee Trailhawk models) are equipped with Jeep’s Active Drive I system. This 4X4 system a rear axle disconnect feature that only engages when necessary. The system includes a Selec-Terrain traction management system that gives drivers all-weather capability in four modes: Auto, Snow, Sport and Sand/Mud.

Trailhawk Engine + Performance

Engine and performance are especially important for off-roading. Both the Cherokee Trailhawk and Trailhawk L come standard with the the 2.4-liter I4 engine and a special nine-speed transmission that works with the Trailhawk’s advanced Selec-Terrain system. Selec-Terrain comes with several modes including Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock and it improves the vehicle’s handling off-road.

4x4 Systems

The Trailhawk has three different 4x4 Systems in addition to the Selec-Train feature mentioned above to help with off-roading. The Jeep Active Drive system II is one of these features and it has all the features of the Drive I system mentioned above, but also a 4WD low range mode which allows for added capability. With the Active Drive II system comes Active Drive Lock, which includes a rear axle lock. Finally, the Selec-Speed Crawl Control is a Trailhawk specific 4X4 system that applies gas and braking when needed to allow for safe rock and hill crawling.  

 

Off-Road Equipment

That isn’t all. The Trailhawk comes with upgraded exterior off-road equipment to allow for a safer and more capable off-road experience. Some of these features include the Cherokee Trailhawk’s increased ground clearance approach angle of 29.9 degrees and departure angle of 32.2 degrees. The Cherokee Trailhawk trims are equipped with all-terrain tires, and extra equipment such as skid plates and front and rear tow hooks to help pull you out if you get stuck.

Safety is always a priority. The 2017 Jeep Cherokee has an impressive four-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA. The Cherokee is equipped with excellent  standard features and a selection of upgraded safety options for extra protection. Safety features like advanced multistage airbags, electronic roll mitigation, hill start assist,  keyless entry with panic alarm, and much more come standard with the 2017 Cherokee. Other features like a ParkSense backup camera, a security alarm, and Lane Departure warning are options as well.

Price + Warranty

The 2017 Jeep Cherokee Sport, the Cherokee’s base trim, starts at $23,595. The 2017 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk starts at $31,195 and the 2017 Jeep Cherokee Overland starts at $34,895.

The warranty for the Jeep Cherokee is standard across the board for all Jeeps. The standard warranties include a three year or 36,000 mile basic bumper to bumper warranty and a five year or 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
