You know you want a Jeep and you know you want a CUV, but which Jeep CUV? Jeep has two equally awesome CUV options available, the Compass and the Renegade. The best fit for you depends on budget, cargo space needs, fuel efficiency and style preferences.

Fuel efficiency

Both of these vehicles are shockingly fuel efficient for CUVs. The Renegade comes standard with a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and it is also available with a stronger 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The base engine produces 160 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine gets 180 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. If fuel efficiency is what you want, the 1.4-liter engine has an EPA-estimated fuel economy 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The upgraded engine also has an impressive fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.

The Compass comes with two engine options as well, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The base engine provides up to 158 horsepower and 141 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Again, its fuel economy is impressive. The base engine averages 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, while the upgraded engine has a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Holy fuel efficiency!

Jeep Wrangler Lifts For Different Types of Off-roading

jeep wrangler lifts for different off-roading

Have you been struggling with trying to figure out which Wrangler lift is for your Jeep? Well, it all depends on what kind of off-roading you like to do. Are you a mudder, rockcrawler, trailblazer or water forder? Depending on the answer to that is the answer to which lift is for you.

Mudding

Mudding requires a set of big ole mud tires, which are typically 32-inches or more. With that being said, you will need a lift kit that can accommodate bigger tires. A suspension lift kit (generally four-inches or higher depending on tire height) could be exactly what you need for your Jeep. This type of lift will likely be big enough for your tires and give your Jeep enough clearance to prevent it from bottoming out.

Remember the Jeep Comanche Concept? Check Out Its Twin!

jeep comanche look alike

Remember the Jeep Comanche concept from the 2016 Easter Jeep Safari? Unlike the original Jeep Comanche of the ‘80s and ‘90s that was based off the Cherokee platform, the 2016 Jeep Comanche 4×4 concept had Jeep Renegade base, but it is a diesel powered “trucklet” with a military-style truck bed. It is probably smaller than any truck you’ve seen, but it is mighty.

2016 Jeep Comanche Concept

In order to make the Jeep Comanche concept work, Jeep engineers stretched the wheelbase of a Jeep Renegade six inches and gave the model a five-foot truck bed. The concept model also has a two-inch lift, a winch, rock rails, a soft top like the Wrangler, and 32-inch all-terrain tires. To complete the military feel, the Jeep Comanche concept was a beige color called “Beige Against the Machine.” Which is perfect when you think about the band Rage Against the Machine and its anti-establishment routes.

The engine on the Comanche concept was a 2.0-liter turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine paired to  nine-speed automatic transmission. An off-roading machine, the Comanche concept had a 4×4 off-road system with a low range capability and a locking rear differential. [click to continue…]

rock crawling tips kendall jeep

Are you planning on going rock crawling for one of the first times? Your Jeep Wrangler can take you anywhere, even over large rocks. The Jeep Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited come standard with four-wheel drive, and in comparison to other SUVs they have large wheels and tires and a higher ground clearance, all of which make the Wrangler and Wrangler Unlimited ideal for going off road and rock crawling. But before you go on a rock crawling adventure, there are some things you need to know! Make sure you follow this list of dos and don’ts and stay safe out there!

Do drive slowly while off-road and particularly when crawling.

Don’t accelerate at a fast rate, particularly when descending.

Do let air out of the tires before crawling to allow for more traction. Generally, you want to lower the tires between 10 – 15 psi.

Don’t over inflate your vehicle’s tires and assume the extra height will help, it is actually more dangerous.
