2018 Jeep Cherokee
2018 is a big year for Jeep and though the redesigned Jeep Wrangler JL and Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk are getting the spotlight, the Jeep Cherokee is still one of the brand’s most popular models. Available with a number of trims, options, off-road capability and advanced safety features, the Jeep Cherokee offers consumers a number of choices at a variety of price points.
Engine + Trims
Trims, Transmissions, Drivetrains
The 2018 Jeep Cherokee lineup consists of five models, the Cherokee Latitude, Cherokee Latitude Plus, Cherokee Limited, Cherokee Overland and Cherokee Trailhawk. With the exception of the Cherokee Trailhawk, which is only available as a 4×4 vehicle, all other Cherokee trims are available with a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain.
2.4L MultiAir Engine
2018 Cherokee models can be powered by two different engines. The standard engine on all models except the Cherokee Overland is the 2.4-liter I-4 MultiAir engine. The 2.4L engine produces 184 horsepower, 171 lb-ft of torque and it is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission. Together, the engine and transmission help the Cherokee achieve a fuel economy of 24 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.
3.2L V6 Engine
The other available engine option is a 3.2-liter V6 engine and it comes standard on the Cherokee Overland and it is an available upgrade on the other Cherokee trims. The 3.2L engine
boosts the vehicle’s horsepower and torque and increases the Cherokee’s towing capacity to 4,500 pounds, which makes it best-in-class maximum towing capacity.
Jeep Active Drive I
There are three available 4×4 systems on the 2018 Cherokee lineup. Aside from the Cherokee Trailhawk, a speciality off-road trim, Jeep Cherokee models equipped with a 4×4 drivetrain come standard with Jeep Active Drive I. Jeep Active Drive I comes standard with a rear axle disconnect, Selec-Terrain® Traction Management system and a standard brake lock differential.
Jeep Active Drive II and Jeep Active Drive Lock
The Cherokee Trailhawk comes standard with two 4×4 systems, Jeep Active Drive II and Jeep Active Drive Lock. Jeep Active Drive II includes the same features as Jeep Active Drive I, and it also includes a low range and neutral mode, which provide additional capability like the ability for flat-towing behind a vehicle or RV. Jeep Active Drive Lock has a mechanical rear axle lock as well as a more advanced Selec-Terrain Management system that includes a “rock” setting.
The Jeep Cherokee looks is the perfect blend of a modern and sporty design. On both sides of the iconic seven-slot grille, the Cherokee has unique wrap around narrow headlights, a design feature not available on other Jeep models. The Cherokee Latitude rides on 17-inch aluminum wheels, but other wheel options, like 18-inch gloss black 5-spoke wheels and 18-inch polished aluminum wheels, are available or standard on other Cherokee trims.
The Cherokee comes standard with roof rails, a rear window wiper and defroster as well as an aerodynamic underbody treatment. The standard power locking fuel filler door makes filling up a breeze because no one has to touch a dirty gas cap. Available options include exterior side mirrors with turn signals, a CommandView Dual-Pane Panoramic Sunroof, and there are up to 12 exterior colors available.
The Jeep Cherokee is a five-passenger SUV that has 54.9 cubic feet of storage space behind the front row seat. The Cherokee Latitude comes standard with cloth low-back bucket seats and other available seating materials include leather. To give the driver and passengers plenty of options to charge multiple mobile devices at once, there are a few different USB hookups as well as auxiliary power outlets. The standard full-length floor console is a great storage feature that provides back seat passengers with a convenient place to store various items.
The 2018 Cherokee has a lot of tech that wasn’t available on the Cherokee in previous model years. All 2018 Cherokee models come standard with a rear view camera and touchscreen. Available touchscreen sizes include a 5- or 8.4-inch touchscreen.
