For consumers who travel for work in the city and need a van to maintain their business on the road, the 2018 Ram ProMaster City is the ideal choice for that. Much like its sister van, the Ram ProMaster, the ProMaster City is the more compact version but still has the same capabilities to configure into just about anything on wheels.
The Ram Promaster City is comprised of two trim levels – Tradesman and Wagon. However, both trims levels are split, so the trim levels include, Tradesman, Tradesman SLT, Wagon, and Wagon SLT. All trims share a 2.4-liter tigershark multiair I4 engine, nine-speed 948TE FWD automatic transmission and power rack and pinion steering to help maintain directional stability on the highway and tighter diameters for turning when parking. The 2.4L engine outputs 178 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. The Ram ProMaster City has the ability to absorb bumps on the roads, especially when full of equipment and gear.
The Ram ProMaster City engine has a hydraulically powered Variable Valve Timing (VVT) system. Designed with MultiAir, the VVT system tests the frequency of the intake of gas mixed with air in order to deliver power and refined driving experience. The Ram ProMaster City offers consumers low cost ownership, low maintenance cost plus a Best-in-Class fuel economy of 28 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city – which makes it America’s Most Efficient Work Van.
As to be expected for a cargo van, the exterior of the Ram Promaster City doesn’t have the best curb appeal but its functionality definitely overshadows that. The ProMaster Tradesman and Wagon trims are standard equipped with 16-inch x 6.5-inch silver steel wheels, while the Tradesman SLT and Wagon SLT offer 16-inch x 6.5-inch steel wheel with a full wheel cover – all of which come standard with 215/55R16XL BWS all season tires. Additionally, the Tradesman and Wagon trims come standard with 180-degree opening rear hinged doors and side sliding and rear doors with security panels plus remote keyless entry.
The ProMaster City Wagon and Wagon SLT are standard with rear and sliding doors with vented glass, this is an optional feature on the Tradesman and Tradesman SLT. Color options for the exterior include, Deep Red, Silver Metallic, Quartz Grey Metallic, Blue Night Metallic, Black Metallic and Earth Brown.
Due to the fact that the Ram ProMaster City in a highly customizable cargo van, the interior cabin is incredibly spacious. The van’s cargo capacity can change depending on the seating configurations. For instance, the Ram ProMaster City Tradesman has a seating capacity of just two passengers which allows for a large maximum cargo capacity of 131.7 cubic feet, yet the Ram ProMaster City Wagon has a seating capacity of five passengers which only allows a cargo capacity of 101.7 cubic feet. Additional seating features include, 60/40 fold and tumble rear seat, front passenger seating, plus driver and passenger headrest.
As previously mentioned, consumers have the ability to configure the Ram ProMaster City into just about anything they want on wheels. Including both SLT trims, consumers have the option to upgrade the interior, some of these upgrades include front all-weather floor mats, a GPS antenna input for navigation, LED cargo area lighting, and two cargo packages so storage and organization is a cinch.
The Ram ProMaster City trims share Uconnect 3 5.0-inch touchscreen display, four speakers, and integrated voice command with Bluetooth. Optional on the base Tradesman trim but standard on the Tradesman SLT, Wagon and Wagon SLT include steering wheel audio controls with Uconnect 3 Navigation.
