2019 Ram 1500
2019 Ram 1500
The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 is not your generic work truck or weekend warrior. In fact, the 2019 Ram 1500 offers best-in-class features and raises the expectations of what a pickup should be. Awarded Motor Trend’s prestigious Truck of the Year award, the 2019 Ram 1500 is not cutting any corners.
Avail. Engine Type
Buyers can opt between two different engine choices in the Ram 1500 – a 3.6-liter V6 engine, or a powerful 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine. The 3.6-liter V6 is the standard engine for the lower-tier trims and can generate 305 horsepower and 269 lb-ft, while the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 ( which produces 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque) comes standard under the hood of the Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trim levels. It is an optional upgrade on the remaining available trims. Equipped with a Multi-displacement System (MDS) that works to maximize fuel efficiency, the 5.7-L HEMI V8 saves fuel by shutting off four of the eight cylinders when driving at a steady speed. The mild-hybrid eTorque system is yet another system that improves fuel efficiency and betters the Ram 1500. Overall the system replaces the classic alternator and reduces the engine’s overall load when idling. When paired with the V6 engine the eTorque system generates an additional 90 lb-ft of torque, while respectively adding 120 lb-ft of torque when mated to the HEMI V8 engine.
Driving and Handling
There’s a 2019 off-road package available and it is by far the package that best highlights what the Ram brand has to offer. Including a one-inch suspension lift, an electronic-locking rear differential, an optional four-corner air suspension, and 32-inch on- and off-road tires on standard 18-inch wheels or available 20-inch wheels. Also, buyers looking for a four-wheel drive drivetrain can choose between two electronically-controlled transfer cases: BorgWarner 48-11 for on-demand 4WD or a BorgWarner 48-12 that’s solely for part-time 4WD operation and offers Hi and Low ranges. Owners can engage both of the transfer cases via a push-button control that’s located below the rotary gear selector – right on the instrument panel. The availability of this package depends on the trim.
On the outside, the design of the 2019 Ram 1500 offers quite a few substantial changes. Those changes include a lighter, longer, and wider body with improved aerodynamics, a brand-new Ram badge grille, and sharp body lines. Gone are the days of the classic crosshair grille. There are actually six different grille designs in total throughout the lineup for prospective buyers to choose from. Halogen headlamps are standard on the low-tier trims, but the high-end trims offer a forward-leaning front grille opening with slanted LED headlights and an adaptive front-lighting system.
Wheel sizes broadly vary from 18 – 22-inches, and there’s an optional (and all-new) 33.3-inch x 43.4-inch panoramic sunroof that will let those sunbeams in. A full-width, chrome stamped-steel rear bumper graces the back of the Ram 1500, while the efficient RamBox Cargo Management System has returned better than ever after a redesign. The RamBox Cargo Management System is lockable, weatherproof, including drainable storage bins built into the bed rails, has a 115-volt outlet, and offers relocated overhead lighting for improved illumination.
The inside of the 2019 Ram 1500 can be classified as state-of-the-art when compared to its predecessor. There’s a push-to-start button, an electronic parking brake, even a rotary e-shifter dial, and all are shared standard features across the lineup no matter the trim. Cloth and/or vinyl interiors come standard on the lower-tier trims, while the high-end trims feature upscale leather-bound upholstery with wood accents.
A wider docking area that offers optional wireless charging for a small tablet or smartphone, an additional lined compartment found under the center armrest, and a deep storage tub that can house a 15-inch laptop are all new on the 2019 Ram 1500. Like an on-the-go makeshift office of sorts. An additional tablet holder is available for the rear passengers behind the cupholders for added convenience. An optional glove box that houses a hidden cubby in the dashboard is available on the high-end trims for added security. The RamBin storage system is available on the higher-end trims and can be found on the floor when folding up the rear seat bench.
A key factor when upgrading the 2019 Ram 1500 was modernization. There’s a total of three different sound systems available, ranging from a standard six-speaker sound system to a nine-speaker Alpine sound system, and a premium 19-speaker Harman Kardon audio system with a 10-inch subwoofer. The standard is a 5-inch touchscreen display with the Uconnect 3 infotainment system, but an impressive (and not to mention massive) 12-inch touchscreen is available. The 12-inch touchscreen option features the next generation Uconnect 4C infotainment system, navigation, SiriusXM 360L platform, smart content recommendations, and limitless on-demand audio streaming capabilities. 4G Wi-Fi is also available.
Safety Features and Warranty
Many standard safety features are available on the 2019 Ram 1500 – a ParkView backup camera, advanced multistage front airbags, supplemental front-mounted and side-curtain airbags, a Sentry Key theft deterrent system, and traction and stability control systems. Advanced safety features available include LaneSense Lane Departure Warning-Plus, blind-spot monitoring, Rear Cross Path detection, advanced brake assist, adaptive cruise control, advanced brake assist, forward collision warning, and ParkSense park assist with reverse stop. Select trim levels even offer 911 Call Assist.
