Ram EcoDiesel Fans Get Ready
What should Ram owners expect with the third-generation EcoDiesel? The upcoming 2020 Ram 1500 will maintain the 2019 Ram 1500 pedigree of a wonderful interior that offers solid fuel economy and a new engine available to customers. The 2020 Ram 1500 is expected to debut later in 2019 with its new powertrain. The 3.0-Liter V6 that gives owners 260 horsepower and class-leading 480 lb-ft of torque. Think the EcoDiesel only provides great gas mileage? This powertrain is strong, offering 12,560 pounds of maximum towing with a 2,040 payload.
Where the Competition Stands
What is the competition for Ram like? The diesel for the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado and Ford F-150 Power Stroke both offer less torque than the Ram 1500. The gas mileage for the upcoming Ram light-duty has not been officially released, but Ram’s U.S. marketing director Mike Koval admitted the EcoDiesel would be “very competitive”. Ram is out to make sure their latest EcoDiesel will perform better in all the main areas customers consider, including horsepower, fuel economy, and the interior. To help with all three, the new motor holds low-friction turbo bearings, lower-pressure exhaust gas recirculation, lighter pistons, and a 15-pound-lighter engine block.
Perks of the 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel vs eTorque
Ram has made sure to make the ride as quiet as possible. If the EcoDiesel doesn’t have to be the only option to gain a better fuel economy. The eTorque Ram 1500 coming out will be cheaper around $2,350. The eTorque V8 powertrain has more horsepower at 395 horsepower and can tow close to the same amount at 11,000 pounds. However, with the 4×2 Crew Cab with a 6’4″ box allows 12,750 pounds of maximum towing. The EcoDiesel does have 70 more lb-ft of torque. Ram announced the prices for the EcoDiesel and stated it will be available across every trim. The 2020 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel is set to cost as little as $38,585 MSRP (plus destination fee) for the rear-drive Tradesman Quad Cab.
