Bill Murray Stars In Hilarious Jeep Gladiator Groundhog Day Commercial

Jeep has put together perhaps the best Super Bowl commercial since Apple’s “1984” ad over 35 years ago. The short-form “sequel” to Groundhog Day, a 1993 comedy starring Bill Murray, the commercial highlights the fun of driving the new 2020 Jeep Gladiator. The greatness of both ads was how reactions to audiences made each ad a massive talking point. For viewers to recall and speak about everything inside the commercial, there is no denying the popularity of the Groundhog Day film over the years. While the “1984” commercial was unique and made a strong point about how things would change in its respective industry, Jeep has done the same.
What Made The Jeep Gladiator Groundhog Day Ad So Unique?
Aside from pulling off a miracle to get Bill Murray and several other actors to return as the characters from the classic film, Jeep was able to completely recreate the environment and feel of the film. Jeep also had to get the licensing to play Sonny and Cher’s “I Got You, Babe”, returning to the original location of the film at Woodstock, Illinois, plus make sure everything was authentic to the original film. Getting Punxsutawney Phil to go on a Jeep Gladiator joyride day after day with Phil Connors (Bill Murray) was a hilarious sight to witness for audiences. In fact, this commercial won USA Today’s Ad Meter, highlighting the responses indicated by voters with a one through ten ratings for the best commercial of the Super Bowl. This is the first time Jeep has won, as the Ad Meter rankings date back to 1989. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), the parent company of Jeep, had to try hard to get Bill Murray to sign on.
“He doesn’t have a phone, doesn’t have an agent, doesn’t have an email. He allegedly has an 800 number. You leave a message and maybe he’ll call you back,” said FCA Chief Marketing Officer Olivier Francois.
Perks of the Jeep Gladiator
The 2020 Jeep Gladiator is a mid-size pickup that has won a ton of awards and this ad purely focused on the fun of both the Groundhog Day film and what owners can expect with driving one. Inside this massively popular pickup, owners get the Uconnect 4 infotainment system, a high-quality interior with seating for five. Driving with a pickup that provides a solid steel bed, 4×4 capabilities, and Best-in-class towing up to 7,650 pounds is quite appealing, unfortunately, we can’t all be stuck in Pennsylvania for Groundhog Day, but we can drive a new Jeep Gladiator. Jeep announced with this commercial that there is no other vehicle or active worth looking forward to quite like driving the Gladiator.
What Owning A Gladiator Is Like
Driving the 2020 Jeep Gladiator is an experience all the way through. The windows, doors, and even the windshield can be removed to enjoy an open-air experience unlike any pickup on the road. Similar to the Jeep Wrangler, the Gladiator is highly-accessible and fun to drive. Go off-road and enjoy the fun as Bill Murray did in the commercial with help from us at Kendall Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram. The starting price of the base model Jeep Gladiator is $33,545 MSRP (plus destination fee).
