2015 Chrysler 200: A Total Transformation
It is difficult to imagine a more complete, yet inexpensive makeover, than the one Chrysler gave the 2014 Chrysler 200, in order to create the dazzling and all new 2015 Chrysler 200.
Entirely upgraded, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is an affordable midsize sedan that flirts with high end luxury. Between the redesigned interior and exterior, as well as the boosted technology and safety features, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is an enviable, yet affordable car.
What a difference a year makes.
Equipped with more powerful drivetrains, including a new four-cylinder 2.4-liter Tigershark MultiAir II engine, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is also available for the first time as all-wheel drive. With the all-wheel drive system, sixty percent of the car’s engine power can be transferred to the rear wheels, thanks to a fully automatic disconnecting rear axle, Sport mode, and paddle shifters.
The only comparable midsize sedans similarly equipped are the Subaru Legacy, starting at $21,695, and the Ford Fusion, starting at $26,575. Both engine options come with nine-speed automatic transmission, the four-cylinder getting 184 horsepower, and the available Best-in-Class 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 upgraded to produce 295 horsepower.
Fuel efficiency is right on target for the midsize sedan class at 28 mpg combined, 23 city and 36 highway.Adaptive cruise control is supported by new electric steering aimed at eliminating torque steer and pull drift. This is just the first stage of the makeover, which makes the starting MSRP even harder to believe.
While the 2014 Chrysler 200 starts at $21,795, the base 2015 model is only $200 more to start, priced at $21,995. The drivetrains and all-wheel drive options alone are worth more than that.
Though well underway, this makeover isn’t done yet.
It’s a Knockout
The 200 model was the first Chrysler midsize sedan competitor in more than ten years. While the 2014 delivered on its spec promises and sold well, averaging more than 100,000 sales annually, it is this, the second generation of the Chrysler 200 that is really turning heads.
A streamlined version of the 2014 model, the 2015 Chrysler 200 sports sleeker aerodynamics with a 0.27 low drag coefficient. Sharing a platform with the Dodge Dart and Jeep Cherokee, the 2015 Chrysler 200 comes in four trim levels: the 200 LX, the 200 Limited, the 200S and the premium 200C, with five packages also available for further customization and personalization.
Even the color palette was added to and enhanced with more sophisticated options. Consider the 2014 exterior options: Billet Silver Metallic, Black, Bright White, Cashmere Pearl, Crystal Blue Pearl, Deep Cherry Red Crystal, and True Blue Pearl.
The shade names for the 2015 extended color palette actually sound swankier: Vivid Blue Pearl Coat, Black Clear Coat, Bright White Clear Coat, Billet Silver Metallic Clear Coat, Granite Crystal Metallic Clear Coat, Velvet Red Pearl Coat, Lunar White Tri-Coat Pearl, Ceramic Blue Clear Coat, and Phantom Black Tri-Coat Pearl.
And this car is just as beautiful on the inside.
Chrysler remodeled the 200’s interior to reflect that it was “inspired by classic, thoughtful American design.” The cloth or leather two-tone cabin is much quieter than the 2014 and features either satin chrome or warm chrome trim with glossy black accents.
Leather seats are available on the high end models, as is actual maple trim, making this sedan feel like a luxury car. There is ample storage throughout, with well-designed cubbies to keep the cabin clutter-free.
Speaking of storage, the trunk in this sedan is roomier than most in its class. Depending on which trim and package you choose, optional features include: a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and heated steering wheel.
These luxurious touches are further enhanced by clever tech advances, making the ride more comfortable and convenient.
Beauty and Brains
Of all the vehicles in its class, the 2015 Chrysler 200 offers the most standard and available safety features and it received a Five-Star rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
All 2015 Chrysler 200 models come standard with eight airbags and nifty conveniences like the class-exclusive Keyless Enter ‘N Go, which automatically unlocks the driver’s side when the handle is pulled, provided the key fob is in close proximity to the car.
Innovations like the Blind Spot Monitoring System have been added as well, which helps the driver negotiate safer lane changes. In addition to new infotainment and safety enhancements, the 2015 Chrysler 200C model boasts a rare upgrade as part of its SafetyTec package.
Generally reserved exclusively for luxury lines, the ParkSense Park Assist helps you navigate the vehicle into parallel or perpendicular parking spaces. The car practically parks itself.
And stops itself. The available Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking lets the driver know if he or she is too close to the vehicle in front and will engage the brakes if the driver fails to do so.
Whether commuting to work or embarking on a summer road trip adventure, the 2015 Chrysler 200 will keep you entertained and connected, no matter where you venture. There are two optional Uconnect touchscreen infotainment systems, depending on the trim level.
For the 2015 Chrysler 200 Limited, the Uconnect 5.0 comes with hands-free texting, while the Uconnect 8.4 features the largest screen in the midsize sedan class.
Standard features of the Uconnect 8.4 system include Uconnect Access services and Uconnect via Mobile, free for twelve months, which provides Internet radio, 911 Call/Assist services, and 3G Wi-Fi hotspot.
The seven-inch LED screen lets drivers organize and arrange icons so that they are easily accessible.
Remastered and Reasonable
More than just a few added bells and whistles, the 2015 Chrysler 200 features a whole symphony of upgrades and enhancements over the 2014 model, while still maintaining affordability. No matter which trim level and options you prefer, the 2015 Chrysler 200 is reasonably priced across a significant range, starting from $21,995 and topping out at $30,825.
