Ecodiesel Powertrain On the Way for the 2019 Ram 1500

After speculation about what Ram has in store for the 2019 New York Auto Show, Jim Morrison, the head of Ram Trucks, revealed some details and gave insight about where Ram pickups are headed next. The good news for those who have been holding out for the all-new 3.0-Liter turbocharged V6 diesel, it will be available in the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 later in 2019. This engine is currently only an option in previous-generation Ram 1500 and the 2019 Ram 1500 Classic. The EcoDiesel powertrain will be a redesigned 3.0-Liter turbodiesel that will also arrive in the all-new Jeep Gladiator pickup in 2020. The rest of the details that were talked about are noteworthy.
All-New EcoDiesel Powertrain Facts
This new Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) powertrain is expected to give owners 260 horsepower and an astonishing 442 lb-ft of torque. Some have imagined that the Ram will carry special tuning that changes the output. Morrison gave no word if Ram would apply the eTorque mild-hybrid assist currently used in the gas-powered engine.
FCA made a brand new mid-size pickup with the 2020 Jeep Gladiator, which is a reason Morrison stated there are no plans for a Ram pickup in the same segment. Ram plans to continue to sell the Ram 1500 Classic as an option to potential mid-size buyers. Truck buyers now have the choice of the latest and greatest Ram 1500 or side with the previous generation Ram 1500, rebranded as the Classic, a less expensive option that is slightly larger than mid-size truck options. Ram also came out with the new generation Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 heavy-duty trucks that were redesigned and cater to those who require trucks with large maximum towing
Further Ram Plans
When pressed on other upcoming news, Morrison did not reveal any more about the regular cab option for the redesigned Ram 1500. The only full-size Ram 1500 offering a regular cab is the Classic model currently. Eventually, four-door models will be available for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 as regular cabs are not as popular, so it’s expected that Ram will not offer any for now. Perhaps once the Ram 1500 Classic is pushed out and they have plans to increase the variety offered for the all-new 2019 Ram 1500. The next Ram 1500 will possibly resemble the appearance of the all-new 2019 Ram 2500 and 3500 regular cab models, perhaps softening the grille’s appearance.
