The world of adventure offered by Jeep will look a lot different with its latest Wrangler trim, the 4xe trim. Jeep brand took a giant leap by challenging customers to opt for mild-hybrid systems back in 2019. Now, just over a year or so later, Jeep has announced the production of the 4xe has started. Owners can enjoy knowing the days of using unleaded gasoline to fill their car are a thing of the past. The relative cost of using EVs is way lower for customers and the technology is only becoming better and more predominant around the nation. Jeep did not sacrifice much in the way of engine strength in order to make the Wrangler 4xe powertrain. The 4xe engine supplies 134 horsepower and 181 ft-lb of torque.

More On the Wrangler 4xe’s Power and Range

The Wrangler 4xe’s specs draw a strong first response from those who know what a Jeep typically offers. The 2021 Wrangler has received quite a jump in strength thanks to the 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque offered with the Wrangler 4xe trim. This hybrid setup has pushed the base of both worlds together to offer more for customers to appreciate on the road. The gasoline engine produces 270 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque; the transmission-mounted motor contributes another 134 horsepower and 181 pound-feet.

While the electric motor ahead of the transmission replaces the torque converter, that’s about the extent of the hybrid natureof the 4xe’s powertrain. The motor is sandwiched by two clutches: one that connects the motor to the eight-speed transmission behind it, and one that connects it to the engine in front of it. No CVTs are made for the 2021 Wrangler, which is great news for fans of power. Owners will still have the versatility of their Wrangler for many reasons.  The durability and high-end performance to handle off-road travels is unmatched and celebrated. The EV capabilities for the 4xe is as much as 25 miles on electric power only. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler can achieve 50 mpg-e for owners to enjoy.

How Does the Wrangler 4xe EV Work?

Drivers attain the choice for the powertrain option to be either combined or separated by the driver with total EV mode, hybrid mode, and a charging and maintenance mode available. Regenerative braking is also adaptable from light to heavy, helping owners when they go on roads less traveled. Perhaps the best part about this Wrangler 4xe is the fact that drivers will hardly give up anything for the EV capabilities. The battery pack, inverter, and other associated equipment are mounted under a flip-forward rear seat. The Jeep brand has created this safety feature with placed above the frame rails to keep away from rock dents or punctures. The electronics are all waterproofed, so the 4xe maintains the ability to ford 30 inches of water. All 4xe models get Dana 44 axles front and rear.

Trims To Keep In Mind For 2021 Wrangler

The 2021 Wrangler 4xe and Sahara 4xe trims receive a two-speed transfer case with automatic four-wheel-drive mode and a 2.72:1 low-range. A limited-slip differential is available, and the axle ratios are 3.73:1. The 2021 Jeep Wrangler 4xe trim will offer a 0.1 of an inch lower in terms of ground clearance as opposed to the gasoline models. The Wrangler Rubicon 4xe trim adds a transfer case with a 4:1 low-range, electronic locking front and rear axles with a 4.1:1 ratio and electronic sway bar disconnect, plus the same ground clearance of the non-PHEV Rubicon.
