How Ram Surpassed Chevrolet In Popularity

The landscape among premium full-size pickup trucks has changed in 2019. While the Ford F-150 retained the top spot in 2018 among pickup sales, there was a new runner-up among the largest automotive companies to start 2019. The Ram 1500 has unseated Chevrolet Silverado 1500 for second place after first-quarter sales were compiled; not by a small margin also. The all-new, fifth-generation Ram 1500 has driven (pun intended) massive sales thanks to the quality of their newest pickup. While we’ve already talked about some of these upgrades, we haven’t mentioned everything that is leading Ram over the competition. Let’s share all the finer details that made this move possible.
Ram Surging Ahead
Starting with a beautiful interior and extenuated its immense power even further. Stronger powertrains, higher horsepower, and better gas mileage are afforded for owners. All of these new additions helped gain more attention and secure Ram ahead of Chevrolet. Added comfort in the way of modern technology helps propel this pickup ahead of the opposition, literally. Ram has upgraded by way of a new infotainment system that includes an all-new available 12-inch touchscreen. The largest-in-class touchscreen is fully customizable and provides a split-screen capability. A beautiful, optional dual-pane panoramic sunroof is another true highlight. All these Ram upgrades have led to fantastic sales numbers in 2019.
While the Silverado had a 16% decrease compared to this time in 2018. In the first quarter, Chevrolet sold 114,313 Silverado pickups, but Ram went the opposite route with a 15 percent increase hitting 120,026 Ram 1500 pickups sold so far in 2019. Even GMC and their most popular pickup, the Sierra, saw a drop of 2.2 percent, selling only 40,546 Sierra pickups. While General Motors (Chevrolet and GMC) are behind Ram, they will look for ways to compete. But, it won’t be easy. Ram has more to offer customers.
Exterior Options Galore
Ram has influenced its new look on the exterior with a less is more approach. They have removed the crosshair grilles, min-Mack fenders as well as placing less Ram badges throughout the vehicle. Now, the next-generation Ram 1500 offers options including up to seven unique grilles and three head and taillamp designs. Need more choices? 15 wheel designs go from off-road ready 18-inch wheels up through an urban cowboy 22-inch style. For drivers that want more versatility in their pickup appearance, the 2019 Ram 1500 has plenty to choose from and all of them look sharp and modern. The choice of a crew cab or extended and the bed sizes include a 5-foot 7-inch option or the 6-foot 4-inch bed option. A regular cab, as well as the 8-foot bed option, is expected to be available in 2020.
Improved Safety Features
The 2018 Ram 1500 did not have all the safety features that are available for owners of the 2019 Ram 1500. The biggest additions include advanced driver-assistance safety technology, like rear cross-path and trailer detection. Lane-departure and lane-keeping assist are also available options. Add in adaptive cruise control, a 360-degree camera and a parking-guidance system for good measure and the latest Ram 1500 is far and away the best Ram full-size pickup available today.
