Ram and Jeep Introducing New Midsize Pickup Truck Options

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has not produced a mid-size pickup since the Dodge Dakota in 2011. That’s all about to change as FCA will start to focus their attention on a new Ram truck that will look to capitalize on the growing market of mid-size trucks, having seen a sharp increase in recent years. Ram has not announced what the name of this pickup will be, but there’s a definite opening for the mid-size pickup. FCA is not done with their take on the mid-size truck segment either. Let’s get into all the upcoming plans.
More Details On the Latest FCA Plans
The recent head of FCA, CEO Mike Manley, formerly the head of Ram and Jeep brands previously noted the upcoming, unnamed Ram truck in a presentation back in June 2018. Among the details released was Fiat, one of the brands in the FCA umbrella, that would have influence with a Fiat-based unibody-construction. This is not unheard of as the Ram 750, sold in Latin America, has sold well.
The smaller Ram pickup is expected sometime in 2020 as a 2021 model vehicle. Will Ram add their 48-volt eTorque mild hybrid system over from the current Ram 1500 and Jeep Wrangler JL?
To have an idea of what the future will hold, let’s look at the numbers of the current market for small and mid-size trucks. Those two categories have seen a 10 percent jump in total sales over the last year with 299,228 vehicles sold. That’s not a small number by any stretch, and the year (2018) isn’t over just yet. We can clearly see why Ram has a growing interest in the segment.
Jeep Wrangler Pickup Option?
FCA has new plans for Jeep to enter the mid-size truck segment as well with the forthcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup. The new Wrangler truck and the unnamed Ram mid-size pickup will be built alongside one another in the Jeep plant in Toledo, Ohio. Plans have been arranged, but very little details have been announced. Jeep hasn’t released a pickup in over 25 years since the 1992 Jeep Comanche. The name of this new Jeep truck is expected to be called the Jeep Scrambler.

Ram has more plans for their all-new generation Ram 1500. A special edition 2019 1500 Rebel, known as the Ram 1500 Rebel 12 “Baby Ram”, is expected to be released for the public in the fall of 2018. This special edition pickup truck will include highly upgraded interior features ahead of previous model year designs. Included in the 2019 Ram 1500 Rebel 12 will be the all-new 12-inch Uconnect infotainment touchscreen, upgraded from the normal 8.4-inch display offered in the current Ram 1500 Rebel pickup, as well as a Harman Kardon 19-speaker premium audio sound system with a 900-watt amplifier and 10-inch subwoofer. This is the best sound equipment offered by Ram in any of their trucks, and this interior will also include active noise cancellation to ensure all the noise outside the vehicle and from the engine is removed when residing within the cabin space.
