Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has taken great strides with the Ram brand gaining on their competition. 2018 was quite a banner year for the Ram 1500, as the all-new Ram 1500 sold 36,267 more Ram 1500 pickups total versus 2017. That’s quite an impressive jump in a single year. With the 2019 Ram 1500, owners quickly fell in love with the redesigned interior that included the available, massive 12-inch touchscreen and highly comfortable materials. Not only did customers love the Ram 1500, TRUCK TREND, apart of Motor Trend’s brand for the pickup industry awarded 2019’s Pickup Truck of the Year to the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.

A Closer Look At The Sales Numbers

The total number of Ram 1500 pickups sold amounted to 536,980 in 2018. When compared to the competition, the Ram 1500 finished only behind the F-150 and Chevy Silverado. All three of the top-selling pickups introduced all-new variations.

“It seems the ‘F-150 versus Silverado’ battle may need to be the ‘F-150 versus Silverado versus Ram 1500’ battle. Ram sold nearly as many as Silverado during the 2018 calendar year, suggesting major pressure from one of the hottest brands of recent years. The bottom line is that the truck segment continues to remain strong and will continue to do so with new entrants and continued consumer demand for capable vehicles,” said Akshay Anand, executive analyst for Kelley Blue Book.

Bottom Line Outcome

Customers have spoken and data shows that of the major three pick up brands, Ram has taken the biggest jump forward as Chevrolet saw their Silverado sales go down from last year to this year. Part of the resurgence of Ram is due to FCA’s former president, the late Sergio Marchionne, taking an aggressive stance to improve the flagship Ram 1500. He had set forth a five-year plan to ensure the Ram would move ahead of the Chevrolet Silverado to claim the number two spot behind Ford. The gap has now been reduced by 57% from last year to this year.

“We have seen Ram gaining on Silverado in our shopping data in recent years, even before the most recent redesigns. With the new designs, Ram has been winning awards and critical acclaim above the Silverado,” said Michelle Krebs, executive analyst for Autotrader.

Stronger and Better: Ram Keeps Getting Better

The 2019 Ram 1500 benefitted from weighing less and allowing more power than the prior model year. The loss of over 225 pounds from the frame did not diminish its strength. The 2019 Ram 1500 has an available 12,750 pounds of towing capacity and 2,300 pounds of maximum payload. Owners won’t have to settle for anything less than what they expect in a Ram pickup.  The build quality from inside and out was better in the 2019 Ram 1500, advancing ahead unlike any other pickup in terms of a significant array of active safety features ranging from available adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, and blind-spot monitoring.
