The Dodge Challenger Is the Most Popular Muscle Car Today

Dodge is happy to see something that has not taken place since the Dodge Challenger was first brought back for customers in 2008. The Dodge Challenger finished atop every other muscle car in the segment to finish in first place ahead of the Ford Mustang and Chevrolet Camaro. This is remarkable as the CEO of Dodge Tim Kuniskis has noted this is due to the Dodge brand knowing the chip shortage would hit sales, but maneuvering around the issue. Dodge has put in a massive investment with $22 billion being infused into the business. The Ford Mustang peaked back in 2015 and hasn’t kept up with the pieces that have placed Dodge finally ahead of its largest competitor. The rival Camaro hardly sold vehicles in 2021, placing third on the list with less than half what the Dodge Challenger sold. 

“That’s why I said we don’t wake up trying to chase Mustang and Camaro. Not that I don’t think they’re viable competitors. They’re phenomenal cars; they’re just different cars. They’re different than what we’re trying to do,” Kuniskis revealed to Automotive News.
