The Ram 1500 pickup truck is the next vehicle tapped to gain the EV treatment. As those in power at the top of the board of Stellantis (parent company of Ram) are planning big moves in 2021. The truth is this has been the plan for the Ram brand for over three years. We know Stellantis is planning to discontinue the sale of diesel engines in all passenger cars at some point this year. We expect to inform our readers of fantastic choices that include an EV pickup made by Ram at a certain date, but it’s all speculation about when that will happen. Ram CEO Mike Manley previously added the EV pickup will be made in the fall of 2020.

How Often Does Ram Follow Their Announced Plans?

Ram has a pretty impressive track record when it comes to following through on its five-year plans. Back in 2014, the Ram brand had plans to relaunch the Ram 1500 by 2017 and that came true. The Ram 1500 saw a new generation come through in its 2018 model year, which debuted in 2017. Stellantis is now aiming to ensure EV sales are triple by 2025. Currently, the entirety of the Stellantis is expected to sell more than 400,000 electric vehicles this year alone. Stellantis is pushing to have more charging stations added globally as a result. As far as the Ram brand goes, they are pretty accurate about what they reveal and the reflection of this is in their current production.

Growth of the EV To Come

As much as 14 percent of all sales are electrified in Europe, but the expectation is to see that number inflate to 38 percent by 2025. The total number of EV sales for the company is as much as 70 percent by the end of the 2020s decade. With a little over eight years left in the decade, expect various platforms to change considerably. Carlos Tavares, CEO of Stellantis, has stated that work has begun on the new platforms. The production for medium and large platforms will reach production by 2023. This should keep Ram ahead of the curve as a crop of new EV pickups will certainly be coming out in the near future from the automotive industry.

The supply of 130-GWh batteries is expected by 2025 and the upgraded 250 GWh batteries will be ready by the end of the decade. The key date to hold on to is rapidly approaching. On July 8th, 2021, more details are expected to be revealed on Electrification Day for all investors. The current guesstimation about what the Ram 1500 EV truck will cost should hover around the $70,000 mark or so.
