Wrangler JL Keeps Original Style, Improves Performance + Custom Options
The Jeep Wrangler has always been known (and loved) for three things, it’s iconic style, it’s unique off-road capabilities and features, and all of its customization features, so Jeep made each of those things an important part of the design of the next generation Jeep Wrangler JL.
“Jeep has always represented the ultimate in capability and open-air freedom, and our all-new 2018 Wrangler protects that important legacy and takes it into the future,” said Mike Manley, Head of Jeep Brand – FCA Global. “The all-new Wrangler is instantly recognizable as a Jeep, staying true to the original, yet it is better in every way – delivering even more rugged capability, more ride comfort, more fuel efficiency courtesy of several advanced powertrain options, more interior comfort, more safety and more technology.”
Even though Jeep wanted to make some serious changes to the next-generation Wrangler, they knew one thing, they couldn’t mess with was the classic Wrangler design. Round headlights, a full-size spare tire on the swing gate, and a seven-slot grille are non-negotiable features. However, Jeep was able to make other changes that not only kept the vehicle’s original style, but significantly improved its off-road and overall performance.
The new Jeep Wrangler JL has a lot of exterior elements like the vehicle’s doors, hinges, the hood, fenders, windshield frame and swing gate made from lightweight, high-strength aluminum steel, which helps to reduce the vehicle’s weight and improve fuel economy.
The Wrangler JL also has an improved windshield and windshield rake, which improves the vehicle’s aerodynamics while also making it easier for users to fold-down the windshield and open up the Wrangler. All Wrangler JL models have body-colored sport bars, which are welded to the body and feature integrated grab handles — another example of functional design. Finally, the Wrangler JL Sahara and Rubicon are available with LED headlamps and fog lamps, which offer improved visibility.
The Wrangler JL is more efficient than ever, and it is also a more off-road capable. The suspension on the new Jeep Wrangler JL has been tweaked a bit and its slight changes improve the vehicle’s on-road handling and ride comfort, but don’t impact the vehicle’s off-road capabilities.
Additionally, Jeep made some improvements to the transfer case on the Wrangler JL Sahara. The new transfer case is more user-friendly because it has a Selec-Trac full-time two-speed transfer case, which allows drivers “to set it and forget it,” or in other words, the transfer case can operate on its own.
Jeepers love to customize their Wranglers, and Jeep made that a lot easier with the new Wrangler JL. The new Wrangler JL is available with four top options, instead of the two options that have been standard for years. The new tops include the new easy-to-use Sky One-Touch powertop that opens up with the push of a button, two hard tops and a premium soft top. Thanks to the new top options, there are now dozens of different door, top and windshield combinations, so Jeepers will easily be able to make their new Wrangler look and function just how they want.
Also, shortly after the debut of the all-new Wrangler JL, Jeep announced that Mopar is now offering more than 200 performance parts and accessories for the Jeep Wrangler. Available new parts include Jeep Performance Parts (JPP) LED off-road lights, new lifts kits, rock rail options, and a ton of new wheel options, as well as many more items.
