2016 Dodge Challenger

A Timeless Design

As soon as your eyes rest on the 2016 Dodge Challenger, you’re struck with a sense of familiarity. The powerful stance, traditional design, muscular contours, wide front end, and sweeping hood are all reminiscent of the Challengers from a time when muscle cars were first immortalized. Dodge knew it was important to pay homage to the classic design and still give this Challenger it’s own modern flair for 2016. Therefore, you’ll likely notice a few tweaks to the design…

For example, Dodge designers kept the grille and headlights practically the same width, but now the grille features a split design. The bottom half of the grille sits lower to the ground and the entire front end sits in front of the tire. A wide body-color panel separates the split-grilles from each other. Overall, the result is a modern and much more aggressive front-end, supported by elements from the classic design.

The same air-intake pops up out of the hood, which also retained its original design, and the windshield and roof are also of similar size and shape — making the 2016 Challenger around the same height as its predecessor.

The sides remain relatively plain until your eyes reach the rear-quarter panels, where a more pronounced muscular bulge helps jack up the back end of the design and a hard-edged line runs from the back to the front for definition. The rear is topped off by a spoiler and the famous fastback design is still present.

Dodge even reintroduced classic colors like “Plum Crazy Purple” and “Go Mango Orange,” both of which were popular colors for hot-rods at the time. You can even opt for classic decals, like a racing stripe that runs up the hood and over the roof, or a side-stripe tracing that hard line. Everything about the Challenger has been modernized, while staying true to its classic look and feel.

Record-Breaking Power

The design isn’t the only thing that’s received a modern twist on the 2016 Challenger either. With revised engines under the hood, that classic muscle car performance has vastly improved both its power and efficiency. The 2016 Dodge Challenger has four engine options spread across its trim levels: a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, 5.7-liter Hemi V8, 6.4-liter Hemi V8, and the supercharged 6.2-liter Hemi SRT Hellcat V8.

The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 delivers 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque, which is solid for a standard V6 engine. But, the real appeal is the 30 mpg highway afforded by this engine, which is perfect if you just want to cruise around in muscle-car style.

If you want some serious performance, then upgrade to the Hemi engines. The 5.7-liter version dishes out 375 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque, whereas the 6.4-liter V8 produces 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The 6.4-liter V8 also nabs best-in-class horsepower when stacked up against other comparable engines, and the 5.7-liter has fuel saver technology when matched to the TorqueFlite 8 eight-speed automatic transmission.

While those provide the 2016 Dodge Challenger with a good blend of power and fuel economy, the 6.2-liter Hemi SRT Hellcat V8 engine is the one if you crave record-breaking power. The most extreme example of unrelenting muscle, this Hellcat V8 is only available on the SRT and SRT Hellcat trims and dishes out a massive 707 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque.

This engine is what makes the 2016 Challenger the most powerful muscle car ever produced, putting competition like the Camaro and Mustang to shame.

State-Of-The-Art Technology

When performance is taken to the next level, it only makes sense that the technology needs to be updated as well. Whether it’s technology that’s meant to aid performance, keep you safe, or entertain, the Challenger has it.

The customizable digital cluster display is class-exclusive and provides vehicle information tailored to muscle cars, such as 0-60 mph times, reaction times, and a lap timer. Also, it can display a variety of more common vehicle information.

On the 8.4-inch touchscreen, Uconnect access allows drivers to control their favorite mobile app content right from the touchscreen. When the voice command is added, you can also send and receive hands free calls with your voice using a Bluetooth enabled phone, and the speakers on the sound system will mute automatically, letting you take or send a call without drawing attention away from the road to turn the tunes down. Also, with a Wi-Fi hotspot, using your favorite music app like Pandora won’t eat up your data.

Or, if you don’t like Pandora or Spotify, then take advantage of available SiriusXM Satellite Radio. With this program, it’s possible to save your favorite songs and artists, then tune in when they come back on. Helpful since you won’t have to scour more than 200 channels trying to find them. You can even rewind music on the radio if you want to give it a second listen and if you upgrade to SiriusXM Travel Link, you can get live weather updates, GPS capability, and even the score on your favorite game.

The 2016 Dodge Challenger also has a slew of great safety technology features, like blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, and a rear back-up camera. All of these systems use either radar sensors or a camera to help prevent a collision, regardless of whether you are inattentive at the wheel.
