The trim and mechanical Challenger options that buyers have to choose for 2018 Challenger models from almost seem endless. There are sixteen available trims in 2018 and they include the SXT, SXT Plus, R/T, GT AWD, R/T Plus, R/T Shaker, T/A, R/T Scat Pack, R/T Plus Shaker, T/A Plus, 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, T/A 392, SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, SRT Hellcat Widebody and SRT Demon.

In addition to trims, buyers also have five engine options, two drivetrain options, and two transmission options. With the exception of the Challenger GT AWD, which is the only all-wheel-drive model, all other Challenger trims are only available with rear-wheel-drive. Additionally, a six-speed manual TREMEC transmission is standard, but buyers have the option to upgrade to an eight-speed automatic TorqueFlite transmission.

3.6L V6 Engine

The five engine options include a 3.6-liter V6, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, a 6.4-liter HEMI 392 V8 engine, a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI SRT Hellcat V8 engine, and the new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine.

Standard on the Challenger SXT and Challenger SXT Plus is The 3.6-liter engine. This engine produces 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque and gives the Challenger a fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 30mpg on the highway.

5.7L HEMI V8 Engine

The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine is standard on the Challenger R/T, Challenger R/T Plus, Challenger R/T Shaker, Challenger R/T Plus Shaker, Challenger T/A, and Challenger T/A Plus. The 5.7L engine pushes out 375 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque.

6.4l HEMI V8 Engine

A step-up from the 5.7L engine is the 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine and it produces 485 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. The 6.4L engine is one of the three SRT performance engines on the Challenger lineup and it helps the Challenger accelerate from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds. The 6.4L engine is available on the Challenger R/T Scat Pack, Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, Challenger T/A 392 and the Challenger SRT 392.

Supercharged 6.2L HEMI SRT Hellcat V8 Engine

Up until 2018, the most powerful engine on the Challenger lineup was the 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter SRT Hellcat V8 engine. The SRT Hellcat engine is standard on the Challenger SRT Hellcat and the new Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody. The Challenger SRT Hellcat launches from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds and thanks to the addition grip from the wider tires on the Challenger SRT Hellcat Widebody, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.4 seconds.

Supercharged 6.2L HEMI Demon V8 Engine

Finally, there is the new supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine, which is the most powerful factory-produced engine on the market. The SRT Demon engine produces up to 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque and it is only available on the 2018 Challenger SRT Demon. The Challenger SRT Demon is the fastest factory-produced vehicle and it accelerates from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and completes a quarter-mile in 9.65 seconds.

The interior of the Challenger comes loaded with great standard features including premium cloth sports seats, a 60/40 split folding rear seat, a leather wrapped shift knob, a leather wrapped steering wheel, and a standard black interior. As always there are plenty of upgrade options which come standard on higher up trim levels as well. Interior features like leather seats, a heated steering wheel, premium cloth low-back bucket seats, ventilated seats and red seat belts are just some of the many options available.


While all of the Challenger models look fairly similar because they all have the iconic wide front grille with four round headlights and wide rectangular LED tail lights, however there are some unique features on various trims. All of the Challenger Shaker models have a unique shaker hood that adds to the vehicle’s performance by providing space for the air intake to extend through the hood for more air glow. It also gives it a distinctive muscle car look. New to 2018 is the widebody design and while it gives the Challenger a more aggressive appearance, its widebody design makes it possible for wider tires, which boost track times because they provide better grip.

The Challenger SXT is equipped with 18-inch satin carbon aluminum wheels and all-season performance tires, but there are a number of other wheel options on the Challenger lineup and they range from 18- to 20-inch wheels that are available in aluminum and forged aluminum. Other features that come standard on Challenger models include projector headlamps and daytime running lamps come standard, Goodyear or Firestone tires, and various badging.

Standard Features

The tech features include both safety and entertainment tech. Standard entertainment features even with the base level SXT trim include a 5-inch touchscreen, UConnect 5.0, a six-speaker audio system, a media hub with both USB and AUX ports, and integrated voice command via bluetooth. The Challenger is very safe with its standard safety features like hill start assist, keyless entry, knock back mitigation, electronic stability control, electronic roll mitigation and the list goes on.

Available Upgrades

Just like with style, there are upgraded options (standard on high trims) for both these categories. A rear park assist system, a rear backup camera, blind spot detection and forward collision warning are some of the options when it comes to safety. Stay entertained with upgraded tech including UConnect 8.4 with an 8.4-inch touchscreen, SiriusXM radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and an upgraded 18-speaker sound system with a subwoofer.


MSRP for the base model is just $26,995 (plus destination fee) and price goes up from there depending on trim and added options! Warranties include a three year or 36,000 mile basic warranty and a five year or 60,000 mile powertrain warranty.
