Unchanged for the new Wrangler JL is a standard 4×4 drivetrain as well as the availability for a two-door four-passenger model or a four-door five-passenger model. There are a fewer number of trims available on the next-gen Wrangler JL and they include the Sport, Sport S and Rubicon on the two-door model and the Sport, Sport S, Rubicon and Sahara S on the four-door model. The Jeep Wrangler JL has plenty of engine choices and they range from the upgraded 3.6-liter Pentastar V-6 engine to the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, to the fuel-efficient 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V-6
Upgraded 3.6L Engine
The standard engine for all 2018 Jeep Wrangler models is the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, with modifications to improve its fuel economy. New to the engine is the Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology feature that conserves fuel by automatically turning off the engine when it is idling. The updated V6 engine produces up to 285 hp and 260 lb.-ft. of torque, and buyers can choose the standard six-speed manual transmission or optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
New 2.0L + 3.0L EcoDiesel Engines
New to the Wrangler is the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides 270-horsepower and 295 lb.-ft. of torque. The new engine eTorque system uses an electric motor to direct power to the crankshaft, positioned where the alternator would be. Available in 2019, will be a third engine option for the four-door model, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. Rated at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque, that’s the most torque delivered in the lineup and it also has a great fuel economy.
