The 2018 Wrangler JL remains a 4×4 vehicle with both a two-door four-passenger model or a four-door five-passenger model. Four total trims make up the Wrangler JL lineup, including the Sport, Sport S and Rubicon on the two-door model and the Sport, Sport S, Rubicon and Sahara S on the four-door model. The Jeep Wrangler JL still carries the ever popular 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine, the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, as well as the fuel-efficient 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine.
Upgraded 3.6L Engine
The base engine in every 2018 Jeep Wrangler is the powerful and long trusted 3.6-Liter Pentastar V6, with modifications to improve its fuel economy. To help reach better fuel economy goals, new Engine Stop-Start (ESS) technology features were added to help conserve fuel by automatically turning off the engine if the engine is idling. The updated V6 engine produces a generous 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, which is quite powerful for most drivers. Consumers have the option of a standard six-speed manual transmission or optional eight-speed automatic transmission.
New 2.0L + 3.0L EcoDiesel Engines
A recent edition to the Wrangler is the all-new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine which provides 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. What makes this new engine unique is how the eTorque system uses an electric motor to direct power to the crankshaft, positioned where the alternator would be. Later in 2019, a third engine option for the four-door model will be made available, a 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine. This new engine is not only fuel efficient, but powerful at 260 horsepower and 442 lb.-ft. of torque – that’s the most torque available in the 2018 Wrangler lineup.
