Engine Options


Three Ram 2500 trims (Tradesman, SLT and Big Horn) are equipped with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 VVT (Variable Valve Timing) gasoline engine. The 5.7-liter engine produces 383 horsepower and 400 lb-ft of torque and it is paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. When the Ram 2500 is equipped with the 5.7L HEMI engine the truck has a maximum towing capacity of 13,520 pounds.

The Ram 2500 Limited, Laramie Longhorn, Power Wagon, Limited, Limited Tungsten trims all come standard with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine and a standard six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.4-liter engine produces 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque. The 6.4L engine gives the Ram 2500 a maximum towing capacity of 15,470 pounds.

Buyers also have the option of upgrading to a 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine for additional torque and towing capabilities. The 6.7L engine produces 660 lb-ft of torque and increases the Ram 2500’s towing capacity to 17,980 pounds and a maximum payload capacity of 3,990 pounds.

Configurations


There are a couple different things that affects a truck’s towing capacity. Axle ratio, drivetrain and a truck’s configuration can all play a role in the amount of weight a truck can tow. Ram 2500 trucks are available with a 3.42, 3.73 or a 4.10 axle ratio and with the exception of the Ram 2500 Power Wagon, which comes standard with a 4×4 drivetrain, all Ram 2500 trims are available with the option of a 4×2 or 4×4 drivetrain.

As previously mentioned, the 2018 Ram 2500 is available in eight trim levels – Tradesman, SLT, Big Horn (Lone Star for buyers in Texas), Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Power Wagon, Limited and Limited Tungsten. On one end of the spectrum is the Ram 2500 Tradesman, the ‘less is more’ workhorse and at the other end is the Ram 2500 Limited Tungsten, which expands the boundaries of pick-up truck luxury.

Cab styles include a two-door regular cab, four-door crew cab, and a four-door mega cab. Crew cab and mega cab models is available with a 6’4” or 8 truck bed, and the regular cab is only offered with an 8’ truck bed. The Tradesman and SLT trims are offered with all three cab sizes, while the Big Horn/Lone Star, Laramie Longhorn and Limited trims are available with a crew cab or a mega cab. The off-road trim, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon, is available only in crew cab and short bed only.

Style


Interior


The interior cabin of the 2018 Ram 2500 is undeniably spacious. Excluding the Laramie Longhorn, Limited and Limited Tungsten trim levels, the 2500 Tradesman, SLT, Lone Star, Big Horn and Laramie trims all come standard equipped with 40/20/40 split bench seating. However, all trims share height adjustable front shoulder belts and rear under seat storage compartment. An optional feature on the 2500 Tradesman trim is cloth 40/20/40 bench seats, which is standard on the Ram 2500 SLT trim. Standard on the Lone Star and Big Horn is the cloth 40/20/40 premium bench seat (optional on the Tradesman). Furthermore, cloth 40/20/40 bench seating is only option on the Lone Star and Big Horn trims. Only available standard on the Laramie trim are leather-trimmed 40/20/40 bench seats and limited leather bucket seats are standard only on the Limited Trim. Bucket seats are an available option on the SLT, LoneStar, BigHorn, and the Laramie trims – however, they come standard on the Laramie LongHorn and Limited trim levels.

Standard equipped convenience features shared by all seven trim levels include, 12-volt auxiliary power outlet, dash liner insulation, driver/ passenger assist handles, electronic vehicle information center, floor tunnel insulation, power accessory delay, power door locks, power front windows with one touch up and down feature, power steering, tilt steering column, tinted glass windows, tinted windshield glass and tip start. Additionally, standard lighting features include cargo and center high-mounted stop lamp and rear dome lamp. Standard only on the Ram 2500 Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited and Limited Tungsten trim levels include front door accent lighting, glove box lamp and LED interior lighting.

Exterior


The 2018 Ram 2500 was built to take on any job and because of it’s amazing exterior features, transporting tools and equipment is exceptionally easy and stress-free. The base trim, the 2500 Tradesman, is equipped with 17-inch steel spare wheel and 17-inch steel styled wheels, LT245/70R17E BSW all season tires plus a center hub and tire carrier winch. Standard on the Ram 2500 Lone Star and Big Horn trims are 18-inch polished aluminum wheels and an 18-inch steel spare wheel. Standard equipped on the Ram 2500 Laramie is 18-inch polished aluminum wheels with the optional feature of 20-inch painted aluminum wheels with chrome inserts.

All 2018 Ram 2500 trim levels share the standard feature of automatic headlamps with the available option of clearance lamps. Fog lamps and under hood lamps are standard equipped on the Ram 2500 Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited and Limited Tungsten trims. Standard convenience features are shared by all trims are body color fuel filler door, body color headlamp filler panel, fixed long mast antenna and front bumper sight shields. Standard only on the Ram 2500 Limited and Limited Tungsten, but an available upgrade on other trims, is the four-adjustable cargo tie-down hooks, bed cargo divider and extender, and wheel-to-wheel side steps.

According to Car and Driver, the Ram HD’s available Uconnect infotainment system is one of the best in the biz. It’s responsive and loading with desirable features such as a 4G LTE mobile hotspot, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto, all of which are new for 2018. Standard features on the Ram 2500 SLT, Lonestar and Bighorn trims include, one year subscription to SiriusXM, 8.4-inch touch display paired with 9 alpine speakers with subwoofer, Apple CarPlay/Google Android Auto, HD radio, Media hub (2 USB), Uconnect 4C with 8.4-inch display and USB host flip. If buyers are looking for a larger screen with touch commands and detailed menus, there are upgraded features on the Ram 2500 Laramie Longhorn, Limited and Limited Tungsten trim levels. Standard features shared by all trims include, remote USB port and USB port charge only, media hub (USB, AUX), audio jack input for mobile devices, and six speakers.

Safety Features + Warranty


All 2018 Ram 2500 trim levels share advanced multistage front airbags, electronic stability control, parkview rear backup camera, sentry key theft deterrent system, speed control, supplemental front seat mounted side airbags, supplemental side curtain airbags, supplemental side curtain front/rear airbags, and tire pressure monitoring display. Standard featured on the Ram 2500 Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, Limited and Limited Tungsten include, ParkSense front and rear park assist system and security alarm. Optional features on the Ram 2500 SLT and Big Horn trims include, center high-mount stop lamp with cargo view camera and DOT fire extinguisher. Finally, the Ram 2500 Limited trim is equipped with the keyless Enter n’ Go.
