2021 Dodge Durango Will Gain An SRT Hellcat Model For One Year Only

Drivers beware! There is a new vehicle capable of owning the SRT Hellcat name and badge. The brand that brought out the fierce SRT Hellcat in its Challenger and Charger muscle cars has added the wicked power to the world’s fastest three-row SUV. The 2021 Dodge Durango will gain the supercharged 6.2-Liter HEMI® Hellcat V8 engine with its boisterous 710 horsepower and 645 lb-ft. of torque. This will be for a lone year of production, so buyers should keep this in mind when production starts later in 2020.
What Does the SRT Hellcat Mean For the Durango?
Drivers will be able to go extremely fast in the 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat. The Durango was clocked in at a 0-60 miles per hour time of just 3.5 seconds with a National Hot Rod Association-certified quarter-mile elapsed time of 11.5 seconds. Owners will be able to enjoy a top speed of 180 mph. Compared to the SRT 392 trim, it drives 1.5 seconds faster on a 2.1-mile road course, equivalent to 9 car lengths after a lone lap. That’s some wicked speed that should attract eyes and new owners.
“The Brotherhood of Muscle includes families of all sizes and the Durango delivers Dodge performance as the Charger of the three-row SUV segment. And new for 2021, we have raised the bar even higher. The 710-horsepower Hellcat is the most powerful SUV ever. It’s the last piece of the puzzle and, alongside the Charger and Challenger, completes the Dodge brand’s performance lineup,” said Tim Kuniskis, Global Head of Alfa Romeo and Head of Passenger Cars – Dodge, SRT, Chrysler and FIAT, FCA – North America.
Upgrades Galore For the Durango
Dodge will only produce the Durango SRT Hellcat for the 2021 model year. There are some new changes added to all Durango trims, including a revamped interior with a Challenger-inspired, driver-centric cockpit. Owners will gain access to the new Uconnect system that offers five-times-faster speeds with its infotainment system. Also added is the largest-in-class 10.1-inch touchscreen across with six different trims– SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392, and the all-new SRT Hellcat. The Durango SRT Hellcat brings standard with electric power steering (EPS) with selectable steering tuning to properly handle turns thanks to an improved grip, greater handling performance, and better steering feel and ease of turning efforts at parking lot speeds. Dodge has made owners happy, especially early on, thanks to the attention to detail.
As Strong As It Is Fast
The Durango maintains its ability to out-haul every full-size, three-row SUV on the road with the SRT Hellcat, SRT 392 and R/T Tow N Go delivering best-in-class maximum towing capability of 8,700 pounds. For readers interested in taking home the new 2021 Durango SRT Hellcat, the orders will start in the fall with dealerships receiving the vehicle in early 2021.
