For Jeep, Vehicle Safety Is Paramount

Jeep Plant Kendall DodgeThe world of today is vastly new in terms of basic understanding of  the impact of human caused climate change. But, that’s not as important as occupant safety when driving. Large brands like Jeep are taking large steps to improve traveling and protecting drivers and passengers with game-changing upgrades and life-saving tech. The truth is its never been easier to measure the safety as told by new crash-test ratings, which many shoppers might not realize. The time has never been more effortless to find out how and why protection is important and the crash test ratings that indicate the results of the auto industry, concerning driver’s protection from accidents.

How NHTSA Operates Today

As the focus of safety became a larger concern, the creation of safety ratings for vehicles was created. The first year dates back to 1978 when the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) began to gauge the production of vehicles in frontal-pact and eventually side and rollover crashes. In 2022, we have access to all the results and we can learn about 90 to 125 total vehicles tested by the NHTSA each year. This federal program takes place across numerous sites, where the testing takes home in unique settings. Each facility is different and offers their own results. One such building where testing occurs is the Calspan Corporation, a research firm, found in Buffalo, New York. According to their Director of vehicle crash testing, Gerald Goupil, they are working to provide outcomes through an impartial filter to the NHTSA and other companies.

“We have no ties to anyone. In the scheme of running a test, we provide a completely unbiased result,” said Goupil.

IIHS Breakdown

Extra sources to examine and pay attention to is the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and their safety evaluations. The IIHS is a non-profit organization that helps buyers recognize the most reliable vehicles designed and helps clients by leading them to the safest and most educated decisions. We understand the IIHS will examine about 100 vehicles annually. They conduct over six different crash tests per vehicle and provide a total rating. The rating scale goes from Good, Acceptable, Marginal, Poor and including a rating for a Top Safety Pick+ that is only given out to a vehicle that earns a Good rating on all six levels of testing. The crash-test safety ratings is one way to assess whether or not to settle on one vehicle versus another, especially when a vehicle is more costly or offers somewhat less than another vehicle. That’s the case for electric vehicles, but they will have lowered costs in time.

Further Testing Is Always Ongoing

Buyers can learn quite a bit about their vehicle before they ever step foot into a vehicle. Keep in mind, many automobile manufacturers test their vehicles as well. For example, Volvo has conducted 20,00 to 30,000 computer-generated tests to find out where to develop their production and added 60 live physical collisions to further study how to produce better vehicles. All of the brands we sell of course comply to laws regarding safety and have reached a new day of heightened safety standards.
