Driving a Ram pickup has been a long tradition for many drivers. Among the high number of Ram trucks ever made, the most recent 2019 Ram 1500 has gained much prestige, and rightfully so. The most innovative, luxurious and newest Ram pickup should be the one gaining the biggest spotlight. One of the biggest reasons the all-new 2019 Ram 1500 has been so popular has to do with the eTorque system added with the V8 engine and upcoming V6 engine. Curious to know more about why this set up has gained more Ram fans and kept them lately?
Dynamic and Powerful
The designers of the Ram 1500 have a legacy that was formed by offering vehicles that could survive on the road and get owners the most bang for their buck. This still holds true today with the eTorque system that supplies a wonderful mild hybrid system. Opt for the 5.7-Liter HEMI V8 to gain the impressive strength and savings that come from a modern powertrain. The eTorque is standard for the Pentastar V6 engine, but is available for owners of the HEMI V8 for just $1,450. A boost in performance comes with the addition of a belt that is added to the engine’s crankshaft that adds torque and makes electricity with regeneration braking. There are some differences between the eTorque, depending on if an owner opts for the V6 or V8 powertrain. Let’s examine the differences between them.
eTorque Differences Between Engines
The V6 powertrain will have eTorque capabilities through its liquid-cooled and reverse-mounted addition on the front of the powertrain. This is different from the 5.7-Liter eTorque that is air-cooled and mounted on top of the pushrod V8, giving height. The 5.7-Liter version is supplied by Magneti Marelli. Output for the V6 versus V8 engine offers differences as well. The V6 eTorque unit holds 12 horsepower and 39 lb-ft of torque that is then amplified with the help of the belt drive to add a 90 lb-ft torque assist. The V8 powertrain works with cylinder deactivation that helps save gas between 1000 and 3000 rpm. Ram smartly added an active noise cancellation to block a driver from even hearing that half of the cylinders shut down while driving. Owners get the results of the engine’s hard work and none of the concerns of hearing the eTorque system at work.
Opt For the V8 HEMI Engine?
Owners that opt for the HEMI V8 will have 16 horsepower and 49 lb-ft of torque added with the power multiplied through a slightly different ratio. This assist will push up to 130 lb-ft of torque and pairs with the 48-volt 0.4-kWh lithium-ion battery and DC-DC converter. The converter is what helps the battery charge while running through the pickup’s 12-volt electrical system. While the pickups are ever so slightly slower with the help of the eTorque, they will net more savings for owners over time. The eTorque doesn’t appear on the vehicle in terms of badging or show up as anything noticeable while driving. The eTorque system simply delivers better results for the Ram 1500 to travel further and get the most out of the vehicle for the owner.
How does the 2019 Ram 1500 fair in terms of an EPA rating? The HEMI V8 engine will supply a combined 19 mpg rating and the V6 with eTorque goes all the way to 21 mpg combined fuel economy ratings. Today, the V8 with eTorque is available, but the V6 with eTorque is set to come out before summer ends. Strong and capable of saving gas for owners? We love the all-new 2019 Ram 1500.
