On August 31, 2017, the last Dodge Viper was produced at the Conner Assembly Plant. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) had announced two years prior in 2015 they would end the production for the Viper due to lower than expected sales. The 2017 Dodge Viper was a fantastic example of what a luxury sports car should look like and drive like. High-performance is what separates the Viper from any other brand with its strong V10 engine and remarkable handling. Owners loved the extraordinary power behind the wheel in addition to its user-friendly infotainment system.

Despite all of the accolades and plans to make the Dodge Viper stand out, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) has scrapped the idea of bringing back the Dodge Viper. So, what happened to the Dodge Viper in the end? We’re going to cover the popularity and exactly what fans of the Dodge product can do to replace their need for Viper speed.

More About the Dodge Viper

The Dodge Viper has long been a symbol of the Dodge brand. One look at the vehicle, eyes will light up from the sharp design. The 2017 Dodge Viper provided 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque and carried more vigor than most sports cars would ever dream of having. Unfortunately, the 2017 Dodge Viper only sold an estimated total of 485 vehicles, which is about one-third of Vipers sold a decade prior. Despite the lower numbers, many still saw the Viper as a permanent staple of the Dodge brand.

Multiple reputable news outlets had reported FCA’s intent to make the Viper come back for a 2020 release, most notably Car and Driver, but the idea of a 2021 Dodge Viper in the May 2018 issue was not accurate. Maxim was another publication that got the news wrote, but they cited the same source and FCA eventually came out to say their publications were wrong. So what does Dodge have coming out to replace the Dodge Viper?

From the Beginning to Current Day

While many people are rightfully fans of the Dodge Viper since its introduction back in 1989 at the North American International Auto Show, there are still other Dodge products to admire. Many people who have witnessed the power and excellence offered with the latest Dodge cars, like the SRT Hellcat Redeye, can attest to the awesome standard horsepower (797 horsepower) and will surely hope to see more and drive one someday, just like many have over the years for the Dodge Viper. Those that want a fast, beautiful vehicle from Dodge can step into the new 2019 Dodge Charger or the new 2019 Dodge Challenger. Both represent the best of Dodge available today!
