Jeep CUV Options: Renegade and Compass, Which is for you?
You know you want a Jeep and you know you want a CUV, but which Jeep CUV? Jeep has two equally awesome CUV options available, the Compass and the Renegade. The best fit for you depends on budget, cargo space needs, fuel efficiency and style preferences.
Both of these vehicles are shockingly fuel efficient for CUVs. The Renegade comes standard with a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder engine and it is also available with a stronger 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The base engine produces 160 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine gets 180 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. If fuel efficiency is what you want, the 1.4-liter engine has an EPA-estimated fuel economy 24 mpg in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The upgraded engine also has an impressive fuel economy of 21 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.
The Compass comes with two engine options as well, a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine. The base engine provides up to 158 horsepower and 141 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine produces 180 horsepower and 175 lb-ft of torque. Again, its fuel economy is impressive. The base engine averages 23 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway, while the upgraded engine has a fuel economy of 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. Holy fuel efficiency!
Style and Cargo Space
Although both of these vehicles have similar Jeep standard features like bading, round headlights, and the classic seven-slot grille these vehicles both also have their unique features. The Renegade is a more modern and unique looking CUV with a boxy exterior while the Compass looks similar to the Cherokee and has more of a “classic” Jeep look. Regardless, both these vehicles are have a sleek and aggressive styling (as any Jeep should).
Both these vehicles have several trim levels, each with different features. The base model for both vehicles comes with cloth bucket seats with the option to upgrade to leather. The Compass (base model: Sport) comes standard with exterior features including 16-inch black steel wheels, BSW all-season tires, halogen quad headlamps, a body-color roof and a black grille with chrome rings. The Renegade comes with 16-inch steel wheels, all-season tires, black door handles, halogen headlamps, and a capless fuel filter.
Now, let’s take a step inside these awesome vehicles! As previously mentioned both base models come with cloth seats. In addition, the Compass comes with a rear 60/40 split folding seat, a silver shift knob, overhead console, a front dome lamp and two different interior color options (tan or black). The Renegade comes with all the same interior features standard!
Cargo space is important! Both of these vehicles provide plenty of space, but if you are looking for the vehicle that provides the most, read on. The Compass has 27.6 cubic feet of trunk space and up to 62.7 cubic feet of total cargo volume when the seats are configured properly. The Renegade has a trunk volume of 18.5 cubic feet and a total cargo volume of 50.8 cubic feet of space.
Both of these vehicles have a price range based on trim level. The base level Renegade has an MSRP of $17,995 and the highest trim level of $26,895. The Compass has a beginning price of $20,995 and the highest level starts at $28,995.
