Jeep is going to offer customers more in each segment they have sold. The SUV market is now chalk full of Jeep choices from the Wrangler, Cherokee, Grand Cherokee, Renegade, Wagoneer, and Grand Wagoneer as well. There is also word on a new model that will follow a spinoff of the beloved Jeep Renegade SUV. AutoExpress quoted Mark Allen, the design boss at Jeep, who announced “We’re looking at every segment possible.” This is one segment we expect to see continued growth as the next step in the evolution of the Jeep brand and the growing Jeep SUV segment. Might we see a Jeep Commander as one option?

Jeep Platform For Next Vehicle To Change?

This new vehicle will presumably be underpinned by a Stellantis platform. This is not expected to be from an older one from previous vehicles ever built by Jeep. Jeep is demanding to be working on a model to fit under the B-segment Renegade, but descriptions indicate the all-new vehicle will be raised from its smaller dimensions; it will also have one significant upgrade; this vehicle will be a completely electric vehicle. Details are restricted right now, but it would make sense to develop the vehicle on one of the platforms provided by Jeep’s new parent company, Stellantis.

Jeep Comes Closer to New Ground

With the e-CMP platform would be very close to the right fit for a vehicle the size of the expected apprentice off-roader, it will not support all-wheel drive, a prerequisite for any Jeep that goes off-road, but this vehicle will still look and feel like a Jeep all the way through. The most likely platform to underpin the small electric Jeep is Stellantis’ STLA Small architecture, but it’s not expected to be on the market till 2026. It is being performed with fully-electric powertrains in mind, though, and it will offer the possibility for a rear motor to be installed and give vehicles it underpins the option to go all-wheel drive.

Renegade is a B-segment so obviously, there’s room beneath that and that’s a particular we’re looking at. Allen also mentioned that Jeep still has two niches in the business that it has yet to cover, although he didn’t go into any detail about what they are. We do know that they’re not going to be any more significant than the Wagoneer, but we’re pretty sure they too will have electric or electrified powertrains, since all new Stellantis platforms will come with assistance and join the slew of premium SUV options.
