Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine Options
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the most awarded SUV ever and it is the biggest model in Jeep’s lineup. To offer consumers variety in power, efficiency and capability, the Grand Cherokee is available with four very different engine options.
3.6L Pentastar V6 Engine
The 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine is the FCA’s signature engine and it is standard on the Jeep Grand Cherokee as well as the Jeep Wrangler. On the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the 3.6L Pentastar engine produces 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. The engine is paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission and together, they create an excellent balance of power, handling and efficiency. The 3.6L Pentastar engine has a maximum towing capacity of 4,700 pounds and an average fuel economy of 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway.

5.7L HEMI V8 Engine
Buyers looking for a little more power might be interested in the 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine as this engine produces 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. In addition to having a bigger engine displacement, the engine’s cylinders have HEMI combustion chambers, which are special combustion chambers that decrease the amount of heat lost in the chamber and allow for more valves in each chamber. This engine boosts towing capacity to 7,200 – 7,400 pounds.

3.0L EcoDiesel V6 Engine
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is currently the only Jeep model that is available with a diesel engine, but this could change with the future release of the all-new 2017 Jeep Compass. The diesel engine is the same 3.0-liter EcoDiesel engine that is available on another FCA model, the Ram 1500 HFE. As a diesel engine, this engine produces a great amount of torque (420 lb-ft of torque), which increases the Grand Cherokee’s maximum towing capacity to 7,400 pounds. Another benefit to the diesel engine is its excellent fuel economy of 22 MPG in the city and 30 MPG on the highway.
