Historically speaking, the Jeep Wrangler 4xe has been around since the start of the decade, yet it is now experiencing its best year yet. To start off January 2023, parent-company Stellantis announced Jeep saw annual sales in the U.S. go down in 2022 by 12% compared to 2021 but revealed that roughly 1 in 4 Jeep Wranglers sold was a plug-in hybrid Wrangler 4xe mid-size SUV. That totaled to more than 43,000 Wrangler 4xe models purchased in 2022 alone. Compared to 2021, this was a massive raise to as much a change we’ve seen in a single year of growth. Simply staggering growth for the automaker.

The total figure of growth is 46% and that has led the Wrangler 4xe to single-handedly preserve the number one top-selling EV mark for 2022 sales. The growth in the 4th quarter from 2021 to 2022 is a clear indicator of the success and attention Jeep and it’s 4xe trim has received.

“We saw strong demand for our PHEV offerings in the face of industry market conditions that carried across 2021 into 2022, including production constraints and a disruption of parts and materials in general, which adversely affected our overall sales,” said Stellantis U.S. sales chief Jeff Kommor.

There was a real market for the Jeep EV and it’s 4xe trim and that market is still massive and growing with each quarter. The Jeep Wrangler 4xe was introduced in 2020 as an all-new 2021 trim selection and provided owners with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine with two electric motors. One motor, an engine-mounted motor and the other being a transmission-mounted motor-powered by a 17-kWh lithium-ion battery pack to push 375 combined horsepower and an impressive 470 pound-feet of torque. The EPA projects the 4xe’s all-electric driving range at 22 miles and a solid 20-mpg combined rating. Customers simply can’t slow down from choosing this Wrangler more than any PHEV available from any automaker.

Wrangler Not the Only Hot-Selling Jeep PHEV

Not to be outdone, the 2022 Grand Cherokee 4xe, first introduced for 2022 sold 5,813, or about 10% of all Jeep Grand Cherokee options moved last year. Imagine with more time to grow in recognition and we will see a powerhouse combo for Jeep only get stronger in terms of EV sales success. For those who want to experience the joy of an off-road experience, but the perks of electric-engineering capabilities, look no further than our Jeep vehicles guiding the way in 2023 and beyond!
