Jeep Will Offer New Engine Option In 2022 To Replace Pentastar
We didn’t think Jeep would leave 2021 without having some news reach ears early in 2022. The announcement by the off-road champion brand is they are going to offer a new engine across the board for the brand. The 2022 Jeep Wrangler, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer will all be receiving a new powertrain option. This new engine will be supplanting the long-used 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine as well as the 375-horsepower HEMI V8 engine that was used in some of these vehicles. The new replacement hasn’t been named officially, but the working title is listed as the Tornado engine.

What kind of power stems from this new engine? The reports have listed this new engine as a 3.0-Liter inline-six with turbocharged assistance. We have even heard there could be a mild-hybrid integration that will come with the vehicle. The Jeep brand’s parent company, Stellantis, is also adding this engine for the Ram 1500 pickup, but the Ram 1500 will offer up to 395 horsepower and 410 lb-ft of torque and eTorque mild-hybrid motor, so the high output version of the Tornado is coming to the Ram brand.
Production Has Already Begun In 2021
The engine is expected to be ready for vehicles early in 2022 and is currently being made at the Saltillo Engine Plant. The high output version entered production on November 22, 2021. The engine is expected to be built off the four-cylinder architecture used for the Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio, and Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee 4xe models. The mid-year update for different vehicles at the upcoming 2023 model year. There is also a new production plant that is set to be made in Michigan and is expected to break ground in 2022. The new factory’s precise location is being worked out, but this is part of the Stellantis $35.5 billion investment towards electrification.
