We updated this article to mention that FCA has noted they will not make an ACR Challenger this year, but this story takes a good look at where Dodge might take the future Challenger going forward.

The Dodge Viper ACR saw its famed run end back in 2017. Dodge instead turned its focus and energies on its muscle car lineup. However, there is a rumor from Allpar that claims Dodge is in the midst of creating a new ACR version of the Challenger. Despite the enduring Coronavirus pandemic, this project is going ahead as scheduled. While this report does not name the “long-time source familiar with the project”, the word is an upcoming Challenger ACR is in the works with the end game to achieve the same or even better track performance as the now-discontinued Viper ACR. This goal will take considerable work, but Dodge is not running out of top-tier engines. In fact, Dodge has only improved upon its vehicles horsepower and strength since the end of the Viper ACR. Even the large Dodge Durango SUV is set to gain a new SRT Hellcat trim in the upcoming future.

More On the Rumored Challenger ACR

So, what is expected for this new ACR  in the form of a Challenger? Extreme aerodynamics taken from the Viper design, including a high-position wing and large splitter. Allpar named this Challenger ACR to receive the same large-scale Brembo brakes, and a manually adjustable suspension system and a goal weight of under 4000 pounds. The muscle car will have carbon fiber in the car’s construction to make this the most lightweight Challenger made if the word on the street is correct. This might be one of the strongest as well with two engine choices for customers, including the famed 797 horsepower 6.2-Liter supercharged V8 taken directly from the Hellcat Redeye, as well as the 392 cubic-inch HEMI V8 that is found in the Scat Pack Challenger.

What Will Be the Next Unique Dodge Car?

Dodge has not yet confirmed this news, but we wouldn’t bet against Dodge doing something new and exciting. A Challenger ACR is a different take than some of the rumored developments that have arisen since the last unique entry, the aforementioned 2019 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat Redeye. Will there ever be a Dodge Barracuda again? This idea that the Dodge Challenger could meet some of the designs that made the Viper ACR so endearing is interesting. The rumor goes that Dodge has even changed its factory settings so the suspension could be determined by the customer. This would include setting the height, caster, and camber at the track, as well as shock damping and rebound. Shocks may be adapted directly from the Viper design, along with the brakes. Just like any SRT, the Challenger ACR is built to be raced and for those who love a good track vehicle, the future of the Challenger might have an impressive mix coming in the future.
