Ram Mega Cab Options Available Near Kendall
Ram Mega Cab Options
Ram Trucks is dedicated to making trucks and they have a variety of options for buyers to get the exact truck they need. While the Ram 1500 is a light-duty pickup, the Ram 2500 and 3500 mega cab models are heavy-duty trucks that offer drivers plenty of power and a spacious cabin for up to five passengers.
Whether a boat owner, cowboy, contractor, or truck enthusiast, a Ram heavy-duty truck with a mega cab can tow what you need and bring everyone with you. But which Ram mega cab heavy-duty model do you need?
What’s the difference between a Ram 2500 and Ram 3500?
While the Ram 2500 and 3500 models look fairly similar, weight classifications set them apart. Truck classifications are a little confusing because there are a variety of different “classification systems” used. So here’s a quick explanation of some of the terms people might use when talking about trucks.
Full-Size or Heavy-Duty Pickups
The difference between the light-duty Ram 1500 and heavy-duty Ram 2500 or Ram 3500 is pretty clear, but differentiating between the Ram 2500 and 3500 is a little harder. While both the Ram 2500 and 3500 models are referred to as “heavy-duty” trucks, 2500 might be referred to as a “full-size” pickup and the Ram 3500 a “heavy-duty” truck. The same thing applies to Ford F-250 and F-350 models and Chevy Silverado 2500 and 3500 models.
The United States Department of Transportation classifies trucks based on their gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR), which is the maximum operating weight a truck can possibly carry while driving including the truck itself. With this classification system, the Ram 2500 is a “Class 2” and the Ram 3500 is a “Class 2B or 3” truck.
Half-ton, three-quarter ton or one-ton trucks are classifications given based on the truck’s maximum payload, which it is the total weight that a truck can carry in its bed. Ram 2500 models are three-quarter ton trucks and Ram 3500 models are one-ton trucks. This classification is a bit old and sometimes outdated because there are so many truck options today.
Furthermore, what is on a truck’s rear axles can also affect its payload capacity. Ram 3500 models are available as “duallys,” which are trucks that have dual wheels on the rear axle, giving the truck a total of six tires.
Alright, so what’s really important when shopping for a truck is the numbers, not the classification. So here’s a comparison of the payload and towing capacities on the Ram 2500, 3500, 3500 dually, all equipped with a six-foot-four-inch truck bed, a Ram mega cab in the SLT trim and with a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI MDS engine.
