Stellantis Replacing Pentastar V6 With Two Engine Options?
Jeep will be receiving some massive upgrades in the coming years. The largest changes will be thanks to the innovation by engineers on the electric vehicle front. While today many customers and we all embrace the Jeep 4xe trim, we know there is a lot more to come. Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep, has invested even more money into their production line. They put $24.7 million invested into Trenton, Michigan and is expected to break ground in 2022. The new factory’s precise location is being worked out, but this is part of the Stellantis $35.5 billion investment towards electrification. . This plant is responsible for building the V6 Pentastar engine that has gone into so many vehicles that are part of the brands from Stellantis. Jeep, Dodge, Chrysler and Ram have all used the V6 Pentastar powertrain, but that’s about to change in the future. Stellantis is going to move away from the V6 for new inline-four and other base engine model options.
Two Different Pentastar Engine Replacements?
The latest report has the 3.6-Liter V6 turning into two different upgraded versions. The changes to the facility will include the proper tools to handle this new engine variant. The factory in Trenton includes two facilities. This forthcoming engine will be supplanting not only the long-used 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine as well as the 375-horsepower HEMI V8 engine that was used in some of these vehicles. The new replacement hasn’t been named officially, but the working title is listed as the Tornado engine. The repurposing will take place with the Trenton, Michigan plant becoming top-notch for its 1,322 workers. Stellantis is moving workers to other positions with the exception of moving to the EV manufacturing plant. This is one the moves that is guiding the brand to new heights.
Upgrading the Pentastar For Better Entry Level Power
The 2011 debut of the V6 Pentastar powertrain seems like a long time ago. In 2016, Stellantis sought to upgrade their vehicles with greater fuel efficiency and more torque and did so with the Pentastar V6 upgrades. The next upgrade begins with the 2023 model year vehicles coming down the line. The first quarter of 2023 will see these new upgrades for their lineup and offer customers even more than before.
