Loved for their versatility, CUVs are one of the top-selling vehicles in the market right now. CUVs offer owners the space for passengers and cargo, but aren’t so oversized that they are difficult to drive or gas guzzlers like many SUVs. Two great CUV options are the Jeep Cherokee and Dodge Journey and they both have unique qualities that make each ideal for different consumers.

Engine, Performance and Capability

The Dodge Journey is available with a 2.4-liter I-4 16-valve dual VVT engine and a 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine. When equipped with the 2.4L engine the Journey produces 173 horsepower and the 3.6L engine produces 283 horsepower. The Journey has maximum towing capacity of 2,500 pounds.

The Jeep Cherokee is available with three engine options, a 2.4-liter I4 MultiAir engine, a 2.4-liter I4 PZEV M-Air engine and a 3.2-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine with electric stop and start technology. Depending on the engine, the Cherokee produces between 184 and 271 horsepower and it has a maximum towing capacity of up to 2,000 pounds.

Interior and Tech

Both vehicles have a variety of convenience and entertainment features that make the vehicle modern and unique. The Journey is available as a five or seven passenger vehicle, and the Cherokee is only available as a five passenger vehicle. When it comes to cargo room, the Cherokee is slightly bigger as a five passenger vehicle. The Cherokee’s trunk measures 24.6 cubic feet and the total cargo space when the vehicle’s seats are down is 58.9 cubic feet. The Journey has 10.7 cubic feet of trunk space and 39.6 cubic feet of cargo space as a five passenger vehicle and 67.6 cubic feet as a seven passenger vehicle.

The Dodge Journey is fitted with a 4.3-inch touch screen display, a remote USB port and six speakers. The steering wheel has audio controls, so it is easy and safe for a driver to control the radio while driving. One of the coolest features on the Dodge Journey are the in-floor storage bins in the second-row seats because they offer additional storage space and they can be filled with ice and used as a cooler, too.

The Jeep Cherokee is equipped with Integrated Voice Command with Bluetooth, a 5-inch touchscreen display, Uconnect 5.0 and a remote USB port. The Cherokee comes standard with six speakers and several auxiliary outlets, so multiple passengers can charge their mobile devices at the same time. While the Cherokee doesn’t have the same built-in storage bins that can double as a cooler, it does have a full-length floor console so passengers can store personal items.
