The Jeep Wrangler has been focused on improving year after year. Massive changes, however, do not happen as often. In more recent years, one goal for Jeep was to find ways of offering an easier way to prepare for traveling offroad. Jeep made removing the doors and windows easier than ever when the newest generation Wrangler debuted. But, in the last couple of years, nothing major has taken place until now. A new idea has recently grown in interest for not only customers, but also the engineers from Jeep. The new fix? Creating an even more enriched powertrain to offer greater performance and a much refined, engaging driving experience.

The Path Towards Adding a V8 To A Wrangler

The parent company of Jeep, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (recently renamed Stellantis) is overseeing the perks from one brand (Dodge) and adding to its famed Wrangler. The Jeep Wrangler has never had a V8 engine since 1981 and it will finally gain one with the upcoming Wrangler model year set to offer a new Wrangler 392 trim. The concept Wrangler 392 provides a look at what the extra power and better engine will provide for customers. The 392 concept is able to go from 0-60 in as few as five seconds. Imagine having that power to enjoy on some upcoming Jeep events? Let’s look at what else the concept carries and what is expected to be added for the production model next year.

A Look at the Wrangler 392 Concept

The debut of the Jeep Wrangler 392 concept includes the dark Granite Crystal paint job with custom Red Rock leather upholstery. The engine was upgraded from the lone option, the trusted 3.6-Liter Pentastar engine to the new 450-horsepower V8 engine. Thanks to the competition provided by the new Ford Bronco, Jeep has included the massive 6.4-Liter HEMI engine for the Wrangler. This engine has already been placed inside the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and aftermarket shops have included this engine for the Jeep Gladiator pickup. However, now Jeep will give customers something they have really wanted as soon as next year.

When To Expect the Wrangler 392

The 2022 Wrangler model year will be the first one that carries this new powertrain option for customers to embrace. Jeep had to create reinforcements to the frame as well as new engine mounts for this powertrain to be secured. Jeep also included the eight-speed automatic transmission and added the two-speed Select-Trac transfer case from the Wrangler Sport and Sahara models. The debut of the Wrangler 392 was meant to debut at the Easter Jeep Safari earlier this year, but COVID-19 had other plans. Luckily, those plans are on track to debut next year with 37-inch BFGoodrich mud-terrain tires and offer drivers 13.3 inches of ground clearance with the ability to ford through up to 24 inches of water; four inches more than the current Jeep Wrangler Rubicon can do today. The Wrangler 392 will also carry 17-inch bead-lock wheels.
