Ram Dakota Is Off the Shelf Thanks To the Success of the Ram 1500 Rebel TRX

The Ram brand is not going to add its own stand alone Dakota pickup. After months of the rumors and speculation, the folks at GM Authority, known for their coverage of mainly General Motors vehicles, got their hands on some news. The new parent company of Ram is the newly-minted Stellantis automotive brand. The Ram Dakota pickup was expected to return, but the Stellantis brand is putting a no behind the rumors. There will be no production for this nameplate as the project was canceled in 2021.
Breaking Down the Reasons For No Dakota Return
The French automotive brand PSA Groupe merged with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) to become Stellantis. The largest reason was to create a brand that can compete with the strict regulations that have come about in recent years for the automotive world. The Ram Dakota was discontinued after the 2011 model year, so roughly a decade ago. The Ram Dakota was going to be similar to the mid-size and popular Jeep Gladiator pickup that has risen to the ranks of top-tier trucks. However, the all-new 2021 Ram 1500 Rebel TRX has fulfilled the role that the Ram Dakota would have taken. There aren’t many Ram voids now that the addition of its freshly minted Ram 1500 TRX Rebel is around. While the Ram off-road champion belongs to the TRX, there will be more niche spots perhaps that might bring the Dakota nameplate back.
What Project is Next For the Ram Brand?
What would the Ram brand be without its star-studded Ram pickup lineup? The Ram 1500 has won plenty of awards in the last few years and its set to win even more with the continuation of its 2021 model year. The Ram 1500 Rebel TRX took home MotorTrend’s 2021 Truck of the Year award. The Ram brand also celebrated a second year as a top safety pick recently as well. It’s already been a good year for the Ram pickup, no doubt, but we look forward to finding out the rumors to the next Ram project that will become the next concept turned Ram production vehicle.
